An antique, splendid hand painted 3-1/4" high lidded dresser or vanity jar, possibly for powder or storage. This Japanese Royal Nippon item features lush gold trim with jewelling and it depicts finely hand painted red and pink roses with foliage. It is signed with a Japanese seal signature on the bottom. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a bit of light gold wear and a couple of small paint misses on the lid...

Historically important Japanese woodblock print triptych depicting the landing of foreigners of the “Five Treaty Nations” in Yokohama by Utagawa Yoshikazu (flourished 1850-1870). The print features soldiers and civilians from America, England, France, Russia, and The Netherlands grouped together with their respective flag and label. Two Chinese compradores, who facilitated trade, are in the foreground and western ships line the harbor in the background...

This Toba-e E-maki appears to be a 19th century Gi-ga follower of the later 18th to early 19th century Osaka "Manga-ka" Nichosai (Matsudaira Heisaburo). His humorous images of Hell were quite popular, known as Kakuyu painting.　Overall the genre has many names, Gi-ga being all encompassing, Toba-e being descriptive of this particular style, and Kakuyu-fu being the style of Nichosai. It ends with a simple stamp which reads Fish (Gyo/Sakana). It is 11 by 174 inches (28 x 442 cm)...

Oban diptych by Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) titled “The Story of the Strong Woman Takashima Oiko of Omi Province” from the series "A New Selection of Eastern Brocade Pictures." The print depicts Takashima Oiko leading Saeki Urinaga home in an effort to strengthen him for a wrestling match. The artist's signature and Taiso seal are at the lower left. The lower left margin contains the date of "Meiji 22" (1889). The title cartouche is at the upper right. Published by Tsunashima Kamekichi...

Conceal Short Sword Knife Tanto in Lacquered Fan Shape Saya, 19th Century

The length of the fan is 10.75 inches (27.5 cm) by 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. The blade is 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in length by 0.8 inch (2 cm) wide.

The blade has no nicks, breaks, repair, or scratches, except black tarnished spots. The lacquer has small chips near the blade, and small dents plus fading of gold (as seen in the photos)...

Carved bone and ebony Civil War era dominoes. Mid 19th century. This complete set is comprised of 28 tiles carved from bone, laminated onto ebony, secured with brass pins. They are offered in their original wooden case with sliding cover. Box measures: 6.75" x 2.25" x 2.4". Condition is very good, but exhibiting some signs of wear and minor chipping to some tiles. All in all a great early game.

Antique Japanese pottery teabowl with Sakura and Momiji tree Kyo ware made by the 2nd Rokubei Kiyomizu (1790-1860) about 160-170 years ago. The seal of the potter is stamped on the bottom. Original box is provided. Size Dia. 4.8"(12.3cm) x Height 2.5"(6.3cm) Condition Very good condition. No chips, no cracks.

A heavy hand forged iron candle-stand from a Buddhist temple in the shape of a burning jewel. It is 90 cm tall, 57 wide, base and legs 20 x 39 cm and dates from the 19th century. Very thick and heavy iron work.

Traditional hand painted mandarin figures and floral and butterfly motif. An 19th century example c.1880 a dinner plate measuring approx. 9 5/8 inches in good antique condition some wear to enamels no chips or cracks. A nice addition to any group or a great decorative piece on its own.

An ancient Japanese scroll featuring a blue eyed neko-tora (cat-tiger) prowling over a boulder peering out through sheets of pouring rain. This is a very unusual subject; I have never before seen a tiger depicted with blue eyes. Due to 250 years of isolation the Edo period Japanese artists had never seen real tigers and were forced to conjure up these feline images from their own imaginations...

Japanese Edo period woodblock print by Toyokuni III (also known as Kunisada) depicting a kabuki actor portraying a samurai. His sword rests on the ground and his matchlock musket leans against the wall. Firearms were introduced to Japan by foreign traders in the 16th century. The maru-ni-chigai-Takanoha family mon is on his kimono. This crest, which consisted of two crossed hawk feathers, was used by two Edo period samurai families. This image was published by Maruya Seijiro in 1854...

This pair of Japanese handmade long square cut nails are 5" long and appear to have never been used. The nail heads are solid and shaped into a hemisphere. The silver colored decorative metal escutcheons have scalloped edges and markings to represent a flower. The escutcheons are just under 1" in diameter and have a squared center hole which exactly fits the nail shank.

Japanese sagemono (hanging object) tobacco pipe set consisting of a wood kiserutsuzu (pipe holder), kiseru (pipe), and wood tonkotsu (tobacco box) in the form of a humorous yawning Daruma with arms overhead grasping the two cords with his fists. The cords hold an ojime (sliding bead), which is attached to the pipe holder. Daruma’s body is kiri (pawlonia) wood and his eyes are inlaid with mother of pearl. His face lifts and functions as a cover for the tobacco box...

A beautifully shaped miniature bell with simulated chord looping through the top, half lifting off to reveal a compartment for storing incense. A ball inside the lower section actually rattles around like a real suzu-bell. This is a very unusual and superbly crafted from from the Mino area of Edo Japan. The inside white clay is darkened with age, and the outside infused with color gathered with time...

A very rare 19th century elaborate head dress (Kanmuri or crown) of gilded parts inset with glass surmounted by a phoenix flanked by two dragons for use in the Japanese Noh Theater. A golden phoenix takes flight from the peak, surrounded by sun, moon and flaming jewel from which are suspended extravagant chains of glass and coral beads and gilded ornaments. Made of brass, paper, wood and thin wire, the entire is covered in gold with the sun and moon in enamel and burning jewels in glass...
