An antique, splendid hand painted 3-1/4" high lidded dresser or vanity jar, possibly for powder or storage. This Japanese Royal Nippon item features lush gold trim with jewelling and it depicts finely hand painted red and pink roses with foliage. It is signed with a Japanese seal signature on the bottom. This Toba-e E-maki appears to be a 19th century Gi-ga follower of the later 18th to early 19th century Osaka "Manga-ka" Nichosai (Matsudaira Heisaburo). His humorous images of Hell were quite popular, known as Kakuyu painting. Overall the genre has many names, Gi-ga being all encompassing, Toba-e being descriptive of this particular style, and Kakuyu-fu being the style of Nichosai. It ends with a simple stamp which reads Fish (Gyo/Sakana). It is 11 by 174 inches (28 x 442 cm)...

Conceal Short Sword Knife Tanto in Lacquered Fan Shape Saya, 19th Century

The length of the fan is 10.75 inches (27.5 cm) by 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. The blade is 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in length by 0.8 inch (2 cm) wide.

The blade has no nicks, breaks, repair, or scratches, except black tarnished spots. The lacquer has small chips near the blade, and small dents plus fading of gold (as seen in the photos)...

Carved bone and ebony Civil War era dominoes. Mid 19th century. This complete set is comprised of 28 tiles carved from bone, laminated onto ebony, secured with brass pins. They are offered in their original wooden case with sliding cover. Box measures: 6.75" x 2.25" x 2.4". Condition is very good, but exhibiting some signs of wear and minor chipping to some tiles. All in all a great early game.

Japanese Edo period woodblock print by Toyokuni III (also known as Kunisada) depicting a kabuki actor portraying a samurai. His sword rests on the ground and his matchlock musket leans against the wall. Firearms were introduced to Japan by foreign traders in the 16th century. The maru-ni-chigai-Takanoha family mon is on his kimono. This crest, which consisted of two crossed hawk feathers, was used by two Edo period samurai families. This pair of Japanese handmade long square cut nails are 5" long and appear to have never been used. The nail heads are solid and shaped into a hemisphere. The silver colored decorative metal escutcheons have scalloped edges and markings to represent a flower. The escutcheons are just under 1" in diameter and have a squared center hole which exactly fits the nail shank.
