This late Victorian or early Edwardian vanity box has a high relief or repousse design with flourishes, foliage and crimped edges. It has a gilt interior and a full set of hallmarks for Chester, England 1901. It has the maker's mark for Jay, Richard Attenborough & Co. (trading as Jays) and it also has the retailer's mark on the bottom (JAYS 142 144 OXFORD ST. W.)...
A wonderful image in mat-gray clay of the lucky figure Hotei (Putai) wrapped in robes dating from the mid to later 19th century (Bakumatsu era) when Ao-Bizen enjoyed a revival. Expressive figuring, it is 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) tall and in excellent condition, enclosed in an age blackened wooden box.

Bold and striking sterling necklace designed by Karl Gustav Hansen for Hans Hansen of Denmark. This necklace is from the "Future" line of jewelry manufactured by Hans Hansen between 1932 and 1948. Measuring 15 1/4" end to end, the links are articulated so move and flow freely. The necklace terminates with a threaded screw bolt clasp. It is 3/4" wide and weighs a substantial 137 grams. Signed as shown. A very unusual and spectacular Danish Modernist design.

Veins of green Kai-yu meander over the body of this spectacular example of Edo period Tamba Pottery capping rich red clay rising from an abrupt base. A few bubbles in the clay reveal character about the torso, the lip powerfully rendered over the shoulder, which slumps to one side like some haggard but still proud old soldier. Four looping handles (mimi) would allow the lid to be tied down. Between two a drip from the roof of the kiln has adhered to the clay forming a point of interest...

The center pattern features 3 large multi-colored abstract florals against a black background that is surrounded by a blue & white keyfret design frame. The center florals include stylized lingzhi fungus combined in the design. The outer edge features abstract cloud and water patterns. These designs symbolize longevity, fertility and good luck.
