Question marks, whether straight or inverted, seem to have provided a fun, tongue-in-cheeck motif when Taxco maestros were designing earrings. I have seen them hanging off repousse semi-spheres, studded with turquoise cabs and even having cascabeles themselves. Yet this big, bold and beautiful set goes above and beyond its peers. Sculptural repoussage, tiny beading accents and oxidation combine here with gorgeous bezel-set amethyst cabs in a curvaceous, sexy pair of Mexican Deco earrings...

A most unusual Mexican Deco necklace, this Mexico City figural example falls under several categories. Its links are inlaid with azur-malachite in the Los Castillo "mozaico azteca" style but it also belongs in the "mask" jewelry sub-genre thanks to the repousse portrait adorning the central station. And even though this is not a work from Taxco and its maker is, for all intents and purposes, an "unsung" contributor to Mexico's 20th c...

A most desirable signed Matl from when Matilde Poulat was designing in her shop. This necklace has a 16.75 in. wearable length with a width of .80 of an inch. The head is the larger size with varied tones of large blue turquoise stones. Old Matl is so hard to find and this design is seen mostly in gold wash over silver. This one is all silver. You may see these in a shorter length for less money but they will rarely fit due to the length. The weight is 124 grams...

Massive Los Ballesteros Mexican silver pendant, layered, adorned with beading and oxidation, in a convex shape that pushes the huge citrine centering it out at you - this is one of the most impressive pendants of theirs I have seen. For me it betrays a distinct Spanish Colonial influence as it based on the ornate order medals royals around the world like to bestow on select individuals to show favor and appreciation...

Beautiful face of a court lady with natural wood patina with some dark marks suggesting that perhaps this mask has been cleaned. The hair is enhanced with black color (as it was when purchased in 2003) and grouped at the top of the skull in a bun. The interior shows the patina of an oxidized and weathered hardwood. Importantage at least early 20th, H 29 cm X 15 cm

Beautiful, heavy vintage Deco necklace in the style of Aguilar's "half tubular link" design, I am not sure how to present this to you and what attribution to make. It is not signed at all but the construction, weight and quality make me believe that it could be a Hector original. Yet would anybody in their right mind remove the hallmarks link? In any case, here it is, measuring a wearable 15" long (total length is actually 16 1/4") by 7/8" wide and weighing a generous 91.9 grams...

A very unusual, early Deco Mexican silver and faux tortoise shell demi comprised of a necklace and matching dangle teardrop earrings. There is an intense Spanish Colonial feel about this set and, if I may say so, a distinct regal air too. Each link is carefully inlaid with a silver peacock perched on a branch and the birds of the central medallion and the earring dangles are adorned with shimmering abalone shell. The workmanship is stunning here and the result beyond any expectations. Measuring ...
