Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 16.75". This is an example of the "Naruko-kei" tradition of Miyagi Prefecture. The artisan was Akiyama Tadao, born on November 7th, 1932 (Showa 17.) Measuring 8.25 inches long, this vintage, Black Chef Spoon rest was made in JAPAN in the 1950's. Along with its jolly, wide-eyed caricature, the spoon rest features a rose-colored tulip painted on both sides and reads “SPOON- REST” in partially worn, brown lettering at the top of the chef’s hat. Note small "hanging hole" in back for display on the kitchen wall!

Very few of these pieces survive due to the high level of use they encountered...

It was a very nice surprice to found a lovely French candy box with such cute content .... incluzded a very nice all bisque dolly which has very cute facial expression with lovely painting , a pale bisque socket head with pretty blue glass sleep eyes , fine painted lashes and feathered brows. She has small open mouth with tiny row of porcelain teeth at her accented lips and she has lovely dimpled chin.
