Very rare example of museum-quality Shigaragki-ware by Tsujimura Shiro. It was originally given as a gift from the artist to a secret, wealthy benefactor upon the Grand Opening of the famed Miho Museum near Kyoto, Japan, in 1997.

Some time later we bought it from this famous benefactor, and since then it is in our collection.

Birds flit playfully in the rich foliage of a fiery maple on the front of this flattened ovoid vase by Nakamura Toshito enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The odd triangular opening is perfect for flower arrangement, offering place for larger branches to rest in the corners. Rich and elegant kannyu, crackled layer, seiji celadon by Furukawa Toshio. This chawan, very much in the style of Shimizu Uichi has a beautiful seiji glaze over a perfectly thrown iron clay body.

Furukawa Toshio (b. 1949) is well known for his celadon and copper red pottery and he has been widely exhibited and illustrated both in and outside of Japan.

This chawan measures 5.7" X 2.75" and is in perfect condition and comes with its original artist signed box.

Rivulets of ash dribble down the red earth sides of this vase by Nishiura Takeshi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Echizen Henko. Positioning in the kiln, with one shoulder angled toward the flame, ensure the lip and one rounded corner are charred in that distinct ocher inidicative of the region.
