Betty Cooke modernist sterling silver and wood kinetic brooch
1950
This exceptional and rare brooch measures 2 3/4" x 3"

We love Betty's simple and sophisticated elegance of design. That's what she's really known for. But we really love, especially in her early works, the way she made use of something whimsical or introduced unique elements like toothpicks or ebony from old piano keys...
Constructionist brooch by important jewelry maker Sam Kramer, who produced avant-guarde jewelry in his New York based shop in the 1950s. This interesting piece consists of two arked triangular shaped pieces, which move freely on a tall silver bar. This allows the pieces to move up, down, and side to side, but not to move out of the crossed configuration. Corretly signed with Kramer's distinctive mushroom hallmark as shown. Excellent vintage condition...
Here is a mid-20th century handmade ring of two types of wood mounted in a sterling silver frame. The wood is carved into small squares. The rectangular top is soldered to a sterling band and rises about 1/2 inch from the finger. The ring is unmarked, but tests for sterling. The top of the ring measures 3/4 inch long by 5/8 inch wide. The ring is sized to a 7.
Here is a bold, mid-century modernist money clip. It's composed of a flexible but sturdy forged-wire frame, with an applied mounted piece of rosewood in a trapezoidal shape. A silver half-bead is applied to a crossbar near the top. The wood has a polished surface and shows no damage or cracking. The clip is unmarked, but tests as sterling. It measures 2 ½ inches long by ¾ inch wide.

Has a rolling safety clasp that holds securely. Has some minor surface scratches and a little tarnish.
Lots of movement. Classic Arthur King design.
