I love zodiac jewelry and thankfully so did the old Mexican maestros! Yet over the years I have noticed that no matter what their form (rings, brooches or bracelets), they are being snatched up with increasing fervor. So saying that they are becoming more difficult to find would not be an understatement, especially for rings which are an already challenging area of collecting in the vintage Mexican jewelry world...

A vintage pair of sterling silver screw back earrings by Margot de Taxco, (Margot Van Voorhies Carr), number 5376, with blue confetti enamel. Opposites so frame the face when worn.

Measure 7/8" high and 3/4" across. Marked Made in Mexico Sterling, Margot de Taxco and 5376. Also marked with Eagle #16.

Screw backs hold securely. Very nice condition with some tarnish. Hard to find design.

Modernist sterling and copper ring by Jim Hayes - Aspen, Colorado.

A beautifully hand made sterling silver brooch by Daniel Pedersen who also worked for Kalo. This brooch measures 3" long and 1 1/2" across. Marked Sterling. Has a rollover clasp that closes tightly. Warm patina, heavy weight and well made. Collector quality.

A vintage modernist necklace with a textured and polished silver pendant on what looks like the original chain by the master sculptor and artist from Ecuador, Oswaldo Guayasamin. Has 5 dangles suspended from the bottom and a central polished concave disk dangling from the center.

The central pendant measures 1 1/4" across and 2 1/2" long with the large bales and dangles. The chain measures about 25" long and has a secure hook closure...

We have an Antonio Pineda high sheen obsidian bracelet today with a wearable of 7 inches and a height of 1.25 in. tall. A substantial bracelet with a weight of 90 grams and no chips or damage to the silver. Part of the hallmark wraps under the clasp. You will see glare and areas with patina. This signed Antonio Pineda is featured in the book SILVER SEDUCTION THE ART OF MEXICAN MODERNIST ANTONIO PINEDA BY GOBI STROMBERG.

This flower pin is well molded and nicely detailed, making an impressive statement. It is secured by a rollover clasp and appears to have been hardly worn. The back bears a maker's mark of what appears to be Dunez Originals. It is marked sterling and measures 3 ½ in. long by 2 in. wide. Weight: 15 grams

Minimalist hand made silver ring with rhodocrosite ball, c.1960's. Clean modernism with the look of Scandinavian design it is size 6 1/2. Ring flares up and out and the stone seems to be free floating within a silver circle. Made of heavy gauge silver the ring is unsigned but guaranteed to be silver. Excellent condition. Modernist cufflinks made up of eight little geometrically arranged cylinders. Made by Isaac Cohen, Stockholm and marked ICO, S:t Erik’s head (the hallmark for Stockholm), R9 = year mark for 1967, three crowns and S indicating the Swedish silver standard of the time = 830/1000. Width "1 / 2.8 cm. Condition: fine.

I could never exaggerate the sparkle of the two big, faceted color-change sapphires that adorn the opposing “wings” forming the face of the modernist Enrique Ledesma Mexican hinged bracelet at hand! Set here against untreated sterling (quite often, Ledesma uses niello-type oxidation to enhance the contrast between gemstone and silver) the stones pass from amethyst to a steely purple under different light conditions thus mimicking the behavior of alexandrites...

Exceedingly difficult to find (I will not say "almost impossible" because I am an optimist at heart!) these Mexican Deco silver repousse hinged bracelets with rows of stone cabochons come in all widths and material combinations. In my experience, the ones with turquoise tend to be the most sought after but amethyst is also popular and I have had examples with black onyx and even colored glass before...

A wonderful vintage bracelet and matching pair of screw back earrings from Taxco by Victoria ~ Ana Maria Nunez de Brilanti in her 'Double Shadowbox Angel' design.

The bracelet measures 7 3/4" long by 1 1/8" wide. It closes by inserting a pin through interlocking cylinders. The bracelet is marked on the back Victoria, Taxco, Mexico, Sterling, and Style #53. This is the heavier and wider version of the bracelet.

Earrings drop down about 1". They measure 3/4" across...

An attractive signed Lang brooch and earrings set in sterling silver c1930s. This set consists of the the 1-3/4" brooch with safety catch and the 1-1/8" x 1" screwback earrings. Quite impressive in size and richly decorated with stampwork this vintage sterling silver and turquoise brooch is signed by Navajo silversmith Willie Shaw. I was always attracted to the magical blues and greens of turquoise and I find the so-called "spiderweb" stones irresistible.
