This bracelet's design is whimsical and marches to its own drummer, but is spot-on in how it is constructed for balance and comfort. The outer surface sports applied silver vine-like curls flanking a central garnet cabochon in an elevated bezel mount. The irregular-shaped terminals complete the quirky, expressionist influence exhibited in this very unusual bracelet. It is unmarked but tests definitively for silver...

Based on Salvador Teran's sought-after "dancers" design, the bracelet I am presenting here was crafted in the period the renowned Mexican modernist was active by one of his contemporary Taxco maestros. Absolute minimalism, strong graphics and a sense of unencumbered, fluid motion characterize the figural overlay which dominates the shadow-box construction of the three central links...

Drawing inspiration from Mexico’s Spanish Colonial past, this sterling silver necklace and earrings set by Margot de Taxco combines dark oxidation with overlay and deep hand-chasing to achieve an elaborate and rich Old World visual effect. I find the central station to resemble a carnival mask - I know, too Venetian but then, carnivals were celebrated in Spain as well though not as elegantly or extravagantly...

This ring features spore-like protrusions and was made most likely in the 1960s or 1970s. It is a very small size, a 3 ¾, and shows minimal signs of having been re-sized, including what looks like a partial mark for silver (it tests for sterling). There is also a hand-engraved maker’s mark of BARZ. The top measures about 5/8 inch wide by ¼ inch high. Weight: 6.4 grams

Vintage Topazio Portuguese sterling silver hinged bangle bracelet in a classic for the genre "harvest calendar" design in which different months of the year are illustrated by either a flower, fruit or other staple that characterizes them. A classic, and much published, design for Hector Aguilar, the “masks” bracelet was not an example of the Taxco maestro’s work that I was particularly looking for. Fun and perfect for this summer - especially if you decide to stay away from beaches! - this mod sterling silver "fish with air bubble" necklace by Los Castillo comes out of the workshop's "onix negro" line of jewelry.
