Oil on panel, 12" by 9", unframed, signed at lower left "Brandon" or "Granlee"; hard to decipher, but the signature has a professional look to it. The work features flaming yellow aspen in fall, it would appear. Rapidly painted with highly impressionistic strokes, the work is complete. The sticker on back with 888 phone number indicates a date of execution after 1996. Put a standard size 12" by 9" frame around this and hang it on the wall.

An attractive plein air oil on canvas painting of the desert in spring with blooming pink verbena on the dunes, 13" by 15", unframed, signed at lower left by listed California artist GRACE T. HOWELL (1876-1966). Howell was born in Denver and showed early art talent. Married in 1897, she moved to Southern California in 1927, living in La Mesa, near San Diego. She painted the California deserts and coast. This oil could use a light cleaning to bring it to optimum condition...

A rare circa 1930 oil by the noted Northern California woman artist GRACE ALLISON GRIFFITH (1885-1955), the subject a tawny field among rugged hills. The unframed oil on canvas board measures 12" by 15 3/4". The artist signed in red at lower right with her distinctive signature. Griffith was born in Sebastopol, California, near Santa Rosa, in idyllic Sonoma County farm and ranch country. Her father, a fruit rancher, was credited with introducing the Gravenstein apple variety to the area...

Oil on board painting of old houses in an American town, 12" by 16" (15" by 19" framed), the auto in the scene suggesting a circa 1930 date, unsigned, housed in an old 19th century Victorian style frame with patterned gold inner fillet. The work suggests to me the famous watercolor art of American artist Charles Burchfield, or at least other painters of the "American Scene" and WPA period. The work has been subjected to water which has left a pattern of water drops over the surface...

Oil on canvasboard painting of red tulips in a bright yellow vase on a tabletop, two apricots or peaches at lower left, unsigned, in a gold frame in wall-ready condition. This is likely by the hand of a talented amateur painter, but it all "works", with bright attractive colors and a clean overall appearance. The entire work as framed measures 16 1/2" by 13 1/2". The scene could be Pennsylvania or Texas, as the artist is associated with both states. Born in Pittsburgh at the end of the Civil War, he studied art at the Pittsburgh School of Art and for a time under well-known Pennsylvania artist A. F. King...

The painting, 14" by 18" (19" by 23" including linen covered surface around the painting) likely dates to the 1960's or early 1970's...

A nicely painted work of Boston-born still life painter CHARLES STORER (1817-1907), the subject red roses, painted on gray art board, measuring 10" by 14" (15 1/2" by 19 1/4" framed). The artist signed at center left edge and dated the painting 1901. This is an excellent example of still life work of the period in New England. Storer was born in Boston, He exhibited at the Boston Art Club and the National Academy. Most existing paintings appear to date to near the end of the artist's life...

Lauber, Joseph, 1855-1948, New York. This oil on board is an impressionist style painting of a Woman in a flower Garden with Fruit Trees. It is 5" by 7" in a 2" period frame There is a Salgamundi Club label on the back. Lauber worked for Tiffany Studios and was known for his stained glass windows. He is listed in Who was Who in American Art, Fieldings, Mallett and was a student of Karl Muller, Chase, Shirlaw and LaFarge.

He studied at the Art Students' League whith Frank Vincent DuMond and George Bridgman from 1910 to 1914. He also studied at the National Academy of Design with Volk and Maynard from 1914 to 1917. Philipp painted a wide range of subjects from genre and portraits to Paris, bars, nudes, clowns, flowers and coasts...
