This is one of the rarely encountered works of Latvian-born artist FREDERICK (FRIEDRICH) A. LEEKNEY (1880-1939), signed at lower left, where he wrote "Laguna Beach 1923". The piece, measuring 14 1/2" by 10 1/2" (23" by 19" framed), features grasses at the sand's edge. This would have been painted around the time that the Laguna Beach art colony was at its classical peak, when the town was a magnet to artists of all sorts...

Watercolor and gouache on paper laid on thin card painting of a typical street scene in an Austrian city, 12 1/2" by 8 1/2" (17" by 13" in circa 1920's black frame), signed at extreme lower left corner and dated there 1917. I have spent considerable time trying to determine what the signature says....I tried Seiler and other similar combinations but so far seem to be unable to link this to a listed artist, though the quality is undeniable...

At first glance most would think this a print, but it is guaranteed to be an original drawing. The work on paper, measuring 22" by 18", and 27" by 23" in contemporary gold framing, is signed at lower left in a flowing signature "Petzoldt", followed by "Mchn. 28" (Munich, 1928). The handwriting of the signature and overall nineteenth century appearance of the drawing suggests this could be 1828, but the paper would definitely appear to be of the 20th century...

Watercolor painting on heavy watercolor paper, 21" by 30" (32" by 40" framed), the subject a lake bordered by trees and low mountains, on a cloudy day, waterfowl taking wing at right, signed TRICIA KINNEY. This is a quality large size work in excellent condition. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name at the moment. The painting is nicely framed and is behind Plexiglas for easier, safer shipping. It needs to be re-mounted as it is slipping around behind the mat...

Watercolor, 9 7/8" by 14" inside the mat (16 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right "N. White". This is a work showing, no doubt, the clipper ship Joseph Conrad, berthed at the Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. The clipper was built in Denmark in 1882 and was renamed as the Joseph Conrad. It was built strictly as a training ship. The artist, NELSON COOK WHITE (1900-1989) painted a lot of marine subject matter, and a number of these works have appeared at auction in New England...

Watercolor painting of a harbor, probably Maine, signed at lower right corner by artist M. Matheson and titled in pencil on the reverse, appropriately, "Quiet Harbor" (with original $35.00 price). The work, on heavy watercolor paper, measures 15 1/2" by 22 1/2". It having slid down under the mat due to the old tape losing its grip, I removed this from the mat and frame, which are (possibly) available at no extra charge. The fairly ordinary frame measures 22 1/2" by 27 1/2"...

Watercolor painting of an old-fashioned water/wishing well in a garden setting, early years of the century, signed lower right KO ASHIWARA. There is an askart listing for the name but an internet search has yielded little information; apparently he had some connection to New York so was an individual of Japanese ancestry working in America. The work is executed by an obviously talented artist...

Watercolor on paper trompe l'oeil still life of wild bird, seeds, and other natural objects, 15 1/2" by 11 1/2" (24 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, and will be shipped without glass), signed boldly at lower left "Herbert Turrell". This is a beautiful, delicate work by an obviously talented artist who, according to my google research, exhibited at the prestigious Royal Academy in at least the early years of the twentieth century. He is listed as having submitted watercolors in the years 1904 and 190...

This is a fine painting of the Christmas season flowering plant, the poinsettia, in ink, watercolor and gouache, 13 3/4" by 11", in simple metal framing, no mat, signed at lower left and inscribed to a friend there "with love to David and deepest feelings of appreciation", by the important American artist ABRAHAM RATTNER (1893-1978). Rattner was born in Poughkeepsie, New York. During World War I he was a camouflage artist, serving in some of the major battles of the war. Between 1920 and 1940...

Watercolor on paper, 5 1/8" by 6 1/4" (13 1/2" by 14 7/8" framed), unsigned, but with a charming old dedication on the reverse side in sepia ink, "Mount Hood/From Vancouver/Eternal Snow/For Mother". This would refer to Vancouver, Washington, across the Columbia River from the mountain. Still adhering to the reverse is printed tape from an old business going by the name Arthur Wayman, of Salem, New York. And this was found in interior Maine. So, the drawing has most definitely strayed far to ...

Watercolor on paper, unsigned, 15 1/2" by 11 3/4" and a 1/2" wide narrow modern frame, no glass, probably dating to circa 1950, the subject a fluted column 19th century style American framed mirror with flowers in a vase placed before it. This is a simple composition but the anonymous artist was obviously skilled in the use of watercolor and also had a sense of composition. There is a modernist touch, in the way the flowers are stuffed into the foreshortened space. Condition is good, with the...
