From our European Collection, a very large late 17th century / early 18th century oil on canvas painting believed to be titled "A Warning to the Wicked Ezekiel." This piece is obviously in relic condition with several notable tears, punctures, and heavy soiling both front and back. Please note that this piece is still currently under study and not fully researched, so we must refrain from posting pricing information at this time...

A mourning portrait miniature by Elizabeth (Eliza) Goodridge. The work, painted in watercolor on natural wafer, is a depiction of a young boy's head issuing from a cloud beneath. Presented in a period, and probably original, case with a glazed, but empty, aperture on the reverse.

The condition is excellent, with no flaws, as is that of the case. The overall size is 2 1/2" by 2 1/16".

**PAIR** of pastel and pencil drawings on paper affixed to board at edges, each 9 3/4" by 13 1/2" inside the mat, currently in simple contemporary inexpensive frames, one signed in pencil at lower right "GROLL". These appear to be possibly scenes of Mexico or even Spain (the artist studied in Europe) by listed American artist ALBERT LOREY GROLL (1866-1952)...

Oil on canvas painting of autumnal trees with a few houses in the composition at center, 12" by 16" (20 1/2" by 24 1/2" in newer frame), signed at lower right in red and dated 1933 or 1939 by Hungarian artist JANOS LASZLO ALDOR (1895-1944). As the images of the reverse labels show, the artist was apparently misidentified by previous owners, including the Brand Library in Glendale, California. Aldor painted landscapes of his native land, as well as often elegant portraits and nudes...

A nice naïve portrait of a woman, painted in watercolors on organic wafer. The sitter is simply presented in a black dress with lace edging at the bodice. An interesting twist is the fragment of a business card in the back of the case. It says "Painter ***wich City CT" (Norwich City)...

Portrait of a woman by French artist Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905). Board: 9.25"L x 12.9"H framed 18.5" L x 14.75" w. Henner entered the École des Beaux-Arts and won the Prix de Rome in 1858. He exhibited paintings in the Salon, many now in the Musée d'Orsay. In 1889, he became commander of the Legion of Honour and succeeded Cabanel in the Institut de France. In 1900, he won a Grand Prix for painting at the Paris Exposition Universelle. Excellent condition minor age wear.

Folk Art Portrait by American Artist, attributed to Sheldon Peck (1797-1868). This Portrait was purchased at a North Carolina auction from the Larew Collection. The 19th century oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman was said to be Thomas Johnston from Concord, NC (Sept. 1850). It was marked on the original canvas (relined) bought in Davie County. It is mounted in a mahogany veneer frame with yellow pine backing. Canvas 29" 24" and the Frame is 38" x 33"...

A circa 1990's signed oil on canvas painting of a coastal scene, 8" by 15", approximately 15" by 22" framed, signed lower left by acclaimed contemporary California artist RITA HOFFMAN SHULAK (1947-). I contacted the artist online, and she was kind enough to respond that this was her work, a not completed painting, probably of the La Jolla rocks in San Diego. She said that the work is from a period when she was experimenting with "washes"...

This is an oil on canvas painting of a mounted cowboy in a forested mountain landscape, keeping an eye on several misbehaving steers. The work is signed at lower right by artist WESLEY LE ROY FULLER and is dated there 1993. His interesting cypher appears adjacent to the date. On the stretcher on the reverse the artist has signed again and added the comment "Good luck to the Elks purple pig"; and there also appears to be a price "$600" and title "Keep em out of the tember" (sic)...

Oil on canvas landscape of a busy scene I believe to be along the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia, 13" by 25" as framed in narrow blond ash, signed at lower right by Torpedo Art Center artist ANNE B. LANDRY. Some internet research enabled me to identify the artist. Landry is a New Orleans native and graduate of Newcomb Art School at Tulane there, who after some time in the corporate world in New York elected to move to the Washington, D.C...

The Maid Oil on board 9 ¾” x 15” unframed Max Carlier is one of the great still life masters of Belgium. He was born in Tourcoing, Belgium in 1872 and died in Schaarbeck in Brabant in 1938...

Oil on canvasboard painting of red tulips in a bright yellow vase on a tabletop, two apricots or peaches at lower left, unsigned, in a gold frame in wall-ready condition. This is likely by the hand of a talented amateur painter, but it all "works", with bright attractive colors and a clean overall appearance. The entire work as framed measures 16 1/2" by 13 1/2". Painting of two children hugging tenderly, 24" by 20", unframed, signed at upper left by the noted Brazil-California 20th century artist OZZ FRANCA (1928-1991). Franca is perhaps best known for his paintings of Native American women, and "Big Eye" children, but he also painted a wide range of other subject matter. A large watercolor on heavy watercolor paper, 22 1/2" by 32 1/2", unframed, the subject a classic landscape of northern New Mexico, with adobes and distant mountains prominent.
