Oil on Masonite painting of one of the dramatic red eroded formations in Monument Valley, in far northeastern Arizona. The impressionist work is good enough to be by someone listed but there is no signature. Probably dates to about the early 1950's. Measures 9 1/2" by 11 1/2" (16" by 18" nicely framed, with some wear on the frame that could likely be smoothed out).

Here is a classic old painting on gray academy board, the subject roses in a vase, 20 1/2" by 14 1/4" as framed, signed at lower right "M Say" or similar. It likely dates to circa 1900, at a time when young ladies were expected to take up painting as a domestic skill, and still life of roses was always a most popular subject. Today these works are sought after by those decorating in the shabby chic style...

This is a folky painting of someone's favorite St. Bernard dog, circa 1870's or 1880's (ONE OF TWO SUCH WORKS IN MY SHOP). Measuring 21" by 16" on the original very old stretchers and 12 1/2" by 12 1/2" (and 17 1/2" by 17 1/2" as framed), the painting is a sweet and classic rendition of a treasured pet of the Victorian era. Vintage dog paintings are very popular and collectable...

Oil on Masonite panel painting of a thicket of trees in the snow, 16" by 12", 19 1/4" by 15 1/2" framed, signed at lower left by artist S C Swiderski and dated there '86 with copyright symbol. The bare trees are accompanied by a lone pine or spruce which gives a bit of green color to an otherwise silvery white/blue palette. The impressionist work is very attractive and it is in excellent condition. Note how the artist used the wooden end of the brush to create a groove in the wet paint...

Contemporary Japanese limited edition etching titled “Twilight” by Ryoko Hirone depicting a woman drinking a cup of tea observing a scene outside her window with a coyote and rabbit among leafless trees. Pencil-signed, titled, and numbered 7/30 in the lower margin. Paper size: 9 5/8" x 13 7/8" (image: 7 1/2" x 6 3/4"). Very good overall condition. An exhibit of mezzotints and etchings by Ryoko Hirone was held in Japan at Gallery Saoh & Tomos in 2003...

A wild crayon and pencil on paper drawing of bizarre abstracted forms that might be described as "organic", the drawing tacked at four corners to a larger board that is itself painted decoratively. The work, 22" by 18" framed, is signed with initials at lower right that could be "BK" and the date is "02". This was found in Southern California. The artist worked a lot of hours to produce this. Both drawing and gold frame are in very good condition.

Carroll Thayer Berry is a familiar name in artistic circles in the state of Maine, as he was an artist, illustrator and photographer there for many decades. Born in New Gloucester, he grew up in Portland and there became enamored of the sea and seagoing. After study at the University of Michigan (naval architecture) he worked for engineering firms in New York and Portland, then still as a young man worked on murals in administrative buildings in the Panama Canal Zone...

Oil on canvas painting of flowers in a green glass vase on a table top, a curtain, fruits in a dish and a cup completing the scene. The work does not appear to be signed on the front; on the reverse side is written "Sprague". The painting, 20" by 16" (24" by 20" in cream colored frame) likely dates to about the year 1950. It is in excellent condition save for a pressure dimple, not quite a full puncture, at upper left----also visible from the reverse side near the end of "Sprague"...

Interesting and unusual print by a so far unidentified artist, 10 1/4" by 8" inside the mat, 15" by 12 1/2" simply framed, the subject a white-haired fiddler seated in a chair. The Mark Twain-appearing man vaguely resembles figures you've seen in prints by Thomas Hart Benton, and the print REALLY resembles a work by artist Eric Bransby (born 1916), recently recognized with an exhibition at a well-known Denver gallery...

In the style of popular Thomas Kinkade or Marty Bell, this is an original oil on canvas, 11" by 14" (17" by 20" framed), the subject a cozy cottage-like house set in a flowering garden, the welcoming lights all on. The painting is signed at lower left "N LaFond". If you enjoy the Kinkade style but would like an original work instead of a print, you may well like this piece. Condition is excellent, frame has a little wear.

An oil on panel painting of a red covered bridge in a mountain landscape, a village at left center, 13" by 19 1/2" (16" by 22" framed), signed at lower right by artist Ed Mifflin. I do not see a listing for this name. The scene likely shows Vermont or Maine; possibly there are covered bridges in hilly southern Ohio that might fit. In any event the circa 1960 work is very poetic...

One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) not many with any color, this is a fine image in soft pencil and a little color crayon on paper, the drawing itself 12" by 18 3/4", in an oak frame without mat, signed at lower left by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

A contemporary screenprint, the imagery forming the letters for "LOVE", pencil signed at lower right and numbered 98/100 examples at lower left, by noted British illustrator and commercial artist Helen Lang. The matted print is currently housed in a white laminated wood frame, measuring 24" by 20" in that frame. GLASS IS CRACKED AT LOWER RIGHT so print will be shipped without glass...

Oil on canvas painting of a rocky windy coastline, likely in Ireland or Scotland I believe, signed at lower right "Peg McCarty". I do not see a listing for the artist. There is a canvas stamp on reverse, of Winsor & Newton, London, England. Measurements 14" by 18" (17 1/2" by 21 1/2" framed). Condition is excellent save for a few drips of foreign matter, brownish, along the ridgeline/horizon at left, and in sea at left center.

Offered is a PAIR of unframed watercolor on heavy paper paintings, each in turn with a simpler work or study on the reverse side, each signed by Southern California listed artist KEN DECKER (1926-1994). Decker, according to printed information on the sleeve (these 11 1/4" by 15" works are not framed), was born in St. Louis, and after growing up in Southern California and military service in the Pacific, studied at the Portland School of Art in Oregon.
