This is a PARIS STREET SCENE from a Virginia, U.S.A. Estate. Signed lower right: Brecla. Have researched this PAINTER and to date have not found a listing. Framed size is: 25 1/2" X 29 1/2"; sight size is 19 1/4" x 23 1/4". NOTRE DAME in the background and in EXCELLENT Condition ca. 1950 to 1970.

This is an early work (**ONE OF TWO IN MY SHOP, THE OTHER VERY SIMILAR, JUST A BIT LARGER; I would like to keep them together because they make a most interesting pair), by the important, well-listed American illustrator artist and art educator BENJAMIN A. STAHL (1910-1987)...

Gouache on paper still life with iris and porcelain figurine of a woman, 20" by 15 1/2" and narrow gold frame of the period, signed at lower left with what appears to be "g. r. becker", and bearing in German script a Christmas (Weihnachten) 1941 dedication, the work apparently given as a gift, on the reverse framing paper. I do not see a listing for a name that would match this signature so am offering this as a decorative work...

Oil on board, (ONE OF TWO BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP), 4" by 7 1/2" inside the mat (7 1/2" by 11 1/4" as framed) signed at lower left in green "Six" and dated there "32", the subject the iconic saguaro cactus of the southwestern American desert at sunset. Because that species of cactus grows naturally only in Arizona, we can assume that this is indeed an Arizona scene...

"Venetian Canal Scene" oil on canvas 25 1/2" x 39" Antoine Bouvard Senior was born at St. Jean-de-Bournay in L'Isere in 1870. He trained as an architect and studied art and architecture under Constant-Dufeus at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He became the Director of Architectural Services for the Seine, and was responsible for the construction of the Bourse du Travail and the Boulevard Morland in Paris...

Oil on board painting in a fully impressionist hand, 26 1/2" by 21 1/2" (35" by 29 1/2" in old, vintage probably original frame), signed lower left and incised on the old soft board on reverse "Pines at Carmel".  This lovely impressive work is by listed California artist IDA MAYNARD CURTIS (1860-1959). Curtis was born in Pennsylvania before the outbreak of the Civil War. She studied with Charles Webster Hawthorne, and with Ross, Menard and Simon in Paris...

By a listed Austrian-born California painter is this large oil on canvas, 34" by 40" (39" by 45" as framed), signed at lower left and dated there "40", the subject the classic, famous, and oft-painted historical Chateau de Chillon of Lord Byron fame, on the shores of Lake Geneva in western Switzerland. The Dents du Midi snow capped peaks rise in the distance, as swans ply the waters and fishermen in a boat at right complete the scene. This is a colorful painting by VICTOR H. NICKOL (1884-1956)...

Oil on masonite painting of colorful flowers in a vase, painted in a lovely impressionist hand, with lots of light, signed at lower left with what appears as "Olle Erikson" and dated there 1946. The painting measures 17 1/2" by 21" (21" by 24 1/2" framed). I have searched online under this name and similar spellings and strangely cannot seem to come up with a listed artist corresponding to the name. Listed or not, the artist knew how to paint...

Oil on canvas, 25 1/2" by 18" (32 1/2 by 24 1/2" as framed), apparently unsigned, circa 1930 to 1950, and very probably European (French or perhaps Scandinavian, judging from the stretcher). The painting is something of a mystery, the mysterious hand and spectacles at lower left coming from outside the image area. Almost certainly this was created by a listed artist but without a signature I cannot go further on that front...

An original Italian impressionist oil painting of Capri and the bay of Naples and Faraglioni Rocks on canvas signed indistinctly lower right. Presented in a quality contemporary gallery frame. Oil on canvas measuring 16 x 24" overall framed size 22 x 30". In good vintage condition some minor touch ups. A beautiful painting.

Two works by Helen Malta of human figures, a watercolor with standing figures facing away from one another, the other with two intense faces side by side, both signed by the artist on paper. The two standing figures measure 12" x 9" and the other is 9 5/8" x 8 1/4". The standing water color also has drawn lines in red, and is signed at the bottom between the figures. the figure on the right holds a bird...

By the celebrated and increasingly sought-after Wisconsin-associated artist LUCIA STERN (1895-1987), this is a fine modernist collage of actual threads of various colors criss-crossing a painting on canvas that is primarily in silver paint, with painted dots, circles rectangles and other geometric forms completing the composition, which measures 17" by 14" plus attractive narrow blond wood frame (no glass)...

Gouache and pencil on paper, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" (slightly larger as simply framed), signed at lower left by listed American artist JOHN EDWIN JACKSON (1876-1950). The scene is a genteel one, with a proper southern gentleman and belle, in a grand architectural setting. The artist was very prolific, illustrating many books and magazines in the first half of the twentieth century, yet, little seems to be known about him.
