Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (born Albert-Ernest Carrier de Belleuse; 12 June 1824 – 4 June 1887) was a French sculptor. He was one of the founding members of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, and was made an officer of the Legion of Honour. Carrier-Belleuse was born on 12 June 1824 at Anizy-le-Château, Aisne, France. This oil on canvas is one of Harpignies better works painted of a Château in Hérisson in central France. This tree as the central focus is one of his more exceptional landscape paintings, influence of realism of the Barbizon School during the Romantic Movement. Harpignies and Camille Corot were close friends and had traveled to Italy together to study. They were both main artists with the Barbizon school which was active roughly from 1830 through 1870...

Watercolor on paper, 8 1/2" by 17 1/2" inside the mat (13 1/2" by 22 1/2" in its very nice circa 1920 vintage frame), signed at lower right and inscribed there "Munich" by the well listed American artist CHARLES PAUL GRUPPE (1860-1940). The subject is a creek or small lake or pond at sunset. Born in Ontario, Canada, Gruppe was in Europe by age 20, where he explored France, Germany and Holland. I imagine that this work would date to that early 1880's period when he would have been in Germany...

Pastel on paper drawing, 6" by 10" (12 1/2" by 17" in its original fine old gilt American 19th century frame), signed at lower right "Stubbs", the subject a man in a small rowboat rounding a headland reflecting in the waters, other boats beyond. This is a scarce, to judge from the auction records, early drawing by the noted American marine artist WILLIAM PIERCE STUBBS (1842-1909)...

For the collector of rare, and desirable early Florida art: a watercolor painting titled in pencil lower left "Old Spanish House/St. Augustine", dated 1881, apparently not signed. The work, paper laid on a board, measures 9 3/4" by 13 3/4". An early 20th century 13 1/2" by 17 1/2" frame (not shown) accompanies the watercolor. On the reverse side of the board in modern times someone wrote "Attributed to William Turner Dannat" but this is highly unlikely...

It is signed at lower left "L. van Straten", which is a well-known pseudonym for the listed Dutch artist HERMANUS KOEKKOEK II (1836-1909), along with "J. van Couver"...

This is obviously an American work, not European, but I cannot confirm that it's by the noted American artist James David Smillie. I researched the monogram and see the clear resemblance to that of Smillie...

Detailed antique watercolor drawing of a country villa in a park-like setting, an elegant horse-drawn carriage approaching from left, 6" by 9 3/8" (11 1/4" by 14 1/2" in modern day frame), signed at lower right "Herter" and dated there 1838. The villa seems to have Italian or other Mediterranean architectural characteristics, so perhaps we are in Italy, and the artist is a traveler from Germany. This is all speculation as I cannot locate an appropriate artist of this name...

Exceptional 19th Century antique bronze box with Miniature portrait mounted on the cover, Light blue velvet interior. This is an absolutely wonderful miniature portrait painting of Emperor Napoleon, signed Paulin on lower right. Classical gilt bronze box with wreaths on each side of the portrait. Measurements. 3 3/4"L x 1 1/4"H x 3"D, in great condition.

Sold together as a **PAIR**, two watercolor paintings, each signed "BUZZI", one measuring 13 1/2" by 9", the other slightly larger at 14 1/2" by 9" (both 23" by 16 1/2" as framed), the subject two ladies going about their daily activities, dressed in 19th century garb. Condition of both is excellent, with fresh color, and no foxing/staining. The artist is most likely by listed artist Achille Buzzi or possibly Arturo Buzzi.

This is a typical watercolor painting by the noted artist OTIS S. WEBER (1847-) of New England. Although he is listed, and works sell regularly at auction, not a lot seems to be known about Weber's life and career, but paintings dated as early as 1876 are known. He seems to have worked into the 20th century...
