Harry Shokler 1896-1978 American This is a fine large color screen print by American artist Harry Shokler (1896-1978) The title of this work is Summer Hotel, created in 1945 and printed in an edition of 100. Hand signed and titled in pencil and also signed with pen and ink within the image. This large image measures 14 9/16X18 3/4 inches. Very fine condition. Matted not framed.

Major geometric abstract oil on masonite painting, by Joseph Meierhans, circa 1940's. Gold leaf original frame - in excellent condition this work [image] measures app. 27 1/2" X 33 1/2". Meierhans, b. - 1890 in Switzerland, came to the United States in 1917, eventually settling in Bucks County. He studied under A.N.Lindenmuth and J. Sloan. He was a member of the S.Indp.Artists, ASL, Provincetown A.A. and the American Abstract Artists.

By listed Southern California artist BERTHA TOWNSEND COLER (1865-1948), a large, bulk group of unframed works that came from the liquidation of the contents of a Pacific Palisades home, the owners related to the artist. This is a wall-ready unusually fresh and clean lithograph, hand colored, titled "Millard Fillmore/Whig Candidate for Vice President", by New York competitors to Nathaniel Currier, J. Baillie and Company. The coloring is green in the curtains and just a hint of blush on the cheeks. Size is 13" by 9" inside the double mat. There is clean double matting (rich forest green matching the curtains and inner mat is tan), and the black frame with a bit of gold inner edge...

Scarce 1941 color lithograph print titled in the lower left margin "Babes in the wood" and facsimile signature in right margin by the noted California artist CONRAD BUFF (1886-1975). These prints are sometimes found with pencil signatures, and many were issued in small editions generally under 200 examples. I cannot be certain as to the edition size of this particular title...

A colorful and decorative Haitian painting, the subject two women in white clothing at a market, with their baskets and fruits and lengths of cut sugar cane. The work is oil on thin unstretched canvas, in a simple black frame with black mat, and no glass. The piece measures 17 1/4" BY 21 1/4" as framed. The artist signed at lower right "Lauren C.".

MEDIA: Chinese brush painting TITLE: Playing cats SIZE: 17 ½ inches x 18 inches ARTIST: Chen Liang is a talented artist who is currently the chairman of the Literature and Arts Cooperative in Fudu, Heilongjiang Province. He specializes in detailed landscapes and pictures of flowers, birds and animals. He also uses the sobriquets Quan and Bi Guang. He has exhibited in the former Soviet Union, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong.

An interesting painting of a rather ruddy-faced gent, in a dark jacket with a striped yellow waistcoat, holding a book at the bottom center. The reverse of the case has blue and yellow striped fabric and a lock of hair, all under beveled glass which has worn reverse painted gilding. The gilded metal case is 2" by 1 7/8".

Haku Maki was a well-known Japanese print maker of the second half of the 20th century. About 20 of his workw I called Big Red and a few Big Blue or Big Green. This is one of the rare Big Blue prints. By my reckoning he did about three true Big Blues, this is one of them. Until this true image appeared I only knew of a catalogue image which we enhanced into a nice blue here in Beijing. This is the Real Deal...
