Fine old master style sepia ink drawing on paper, with some pencil underneath, 10" by 15 1/2" inside the mat, 15 1/2" by 20 1/2" in modern day frame, signed at lower right "Furstenburg", the locale identified at bottom center apparently by the artist as "View of the Rhine from Bacharach Aug 17". This could well refer to the year 1817 as the work has sufficient age. On the reverse is written in pencil "Germany $3.75"...

Ottavio Padovanino, Italian, 1582-1634. This stunning drawing is red chaulk and pencil on paper mounted on paper. It is 15"H by 10.6"W with the name Padovanino handwritten in pencil on the paper below the drawing. Verso is written Alessandro Varotari, Verona, 1588-1648, "Le Padovau...." The condition is good with minor foxing and a darkened edge due to framing. It was in a private collection in Chicago.

Ink on paper, double-sided drawing of cowboys and their horses, 7 7/8" by 10 1/4" inside the present mat (13" by 16" as framed), unsigned, but acquired in Yucca Valley from close friends of the artist who obtained much of his work after his 2005 passing. This is a vigorous and spontaneous work by an obviously very talented artist of the American west. Colt's works have been sold at Bonhams auctions of California art, and Santa Fe dealers offer his work alongside the best of western artists...

A charcoal or soft pencil drawing of an unidentified young girl, executed circa 1950's, signed at lower right by the important New Hope School impressionist, JOHN FOLINSBEE (1892-1972). The work, 12" by 10" inside the mat, (19" by 17 1/2" in old frame with Trenton, NJ framer label on backing) is in excellent condition save for browning at edges from mat contact. Folinsbee was born in Buffalo, New York, where he studied for a short time...

Early 19th century Swiss drawing titled on reverse "paysanne", 7" by 5 1/2" (12 1/4" by 10 1/2" as framed), unsigned. This is a fine drawing by a talented hand. I imagine that the artist would be listed were it signed. Condition is excellent. It is taped at top only to the underlying matting materials.

A group of 18 unframed pencil drawings, all landscape, signed by noted Southern California artist LEONARD SCHEU (1904-1995). The drawings are titled: Bridge Amsterdam; Roman Wall Tower of London 200 AD; Amsterdam; St. Peters, Salzburg; Amsterdam; Old House Schoenwald Germany; Quebec; Bern (Switzerland); Cathedral Door Granada; Victoria (Canada). Evidently, the artist was an avid traveler...

Pencil drawing on paper, 4 1/4" square inside the mat, 9 1/4" by 9 1/4" as framed, signed at lower right "Luce", the subject an elderly man at left and elderly woman at right, both reading a letter or periodical. The paper is browned with age, though, evenly, and there's a small crown-shaped stain that looks like an ink blot, irregularly shaped, at lower right. The work is affixed to a board on which is written in old hand "No. 20"...

Henri Laurens, Paris, 1885-1954.These 4 pieces are Cubiste Head ink on paper signed LR. They are 22.8cm by 18.5cm (9" by 7.3". The son of a workman, Laurens trained at an early age in a decoration studio, where he modeled period-style ornaments and drew architectural designs. Afterwards Henri Laurens worked on building sites and scaffolding, where he learnt the hands-on side of hewing stone...

PAIR OF signed ink drawings with pencil underneath, each 7 1/2" by 6 1/2" and 13 1/2" by 11 1/2" as identically framed, the subjects famous clipper ships of the 19th century "Gamecock" and "Cutty Sark", each bearing a signature at lower right that could be interpreted as a "G" inside a square. Found in Maine, and said to have come from a Kennebunkport home, the artist who created the drawings might remain a mystery...
