A previous similar work I handled, by this artist, had an original pre-zip code label from Karl Mann Associates in NYC, apparently a well known interior design firm for decades, a label from the firm considered a good provenance...

At first glance this appears to be a 17th century Dutch landscape oil on panel by someone like Ruisdael, Hobbema, Cuyp, Van Goyen, or other famous artists of that time and place. Closer examination reveals that this is actually a late 20th century work in that style, signed at lower right by artist J M GRISWOLD. I do not see information on the artist but he or she was clearly familiar with 17th century Dutch art...

Original acrylic on canvas by Herb Jackson (American, NC, born 1945). 30" by 22" canvas alone, 33 1/2" by 25 1/2" in its original gallery frame. This painting is signed, titled "Blue Gate" and dated 1987 verso. It also bears the original label from the Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte NC. Herb Jackson is a well-known American abstract Expressionist. He had over 150 solo exhibitions in the US and abroad, and his work is represented in over 100 museums.
