Set of THREE Italian circa 1946 paintings on canvas, in decorative gold matching frames, unsigned, each 9" by 11 1/4" as framed, the subject familiar scenes of Venice, executed in the classical eighteenth century style of Canaletto or Guardi. These works were commonly produced for the tourist trade by talented artists. This set evidently dates to the immediate post-war period, as one bears a date stamp on reverse, 3 Ottobre 1946 and a "Made in Italy" circular sticker...

Large 27" by 33 1/2" (33" by 39" framed), oil on canvas still life cornucopia painting of fruit and flowers including tulips and carnations, in a basket set on a vaguely defined table top against a dark background, apparently unsigned, circa mid 19th century but in the tradition of 17th century Dutch still life. This came recently from a fine area home, where it was proudly displayed in the living room. I do not see a signature...

Oil on Canvas, 10" x 12" unframed, circa 1870 This Dutch born artist was an important member of the Hague School of Art. He was not only an artist but a collector. He was trained at the Amsterdam Academy by Johanas Egenberger and Louis Royer and inspired by Jozef Israels. Artz moved to Paris from 1866-1874, where he set up his own studio at the suggestion of the great artist Courbet. He maintained close contacts with his colleagues Jacob Maris as well as the art dealer Goupil and company. D.A...

Signed at lower left "Albert L. Fischer", this is an unframed, sizable oil on canvas (46" by 27"), the scene almost mural-like: an apparently Italian lake (see the gondolier at right), framed by blooming wisteria dripping off a trellis at top and climbing a lattice at bottom, several boats plying the calm lake waters. I don't see a listing for the artist...

Oil on wood panel of a lady under a portico or trellis high above a coast like Amalfi in Italy, signed at lower right with initials "EC" and dated there "03". The work measures 12" by 7 1/2" (18" by 12 3/4" as framed). On the reverse of the panel is written in pencil old handwriting "E. W. Clawson 431 Pacific St.". It's possible that this could be the artist ("EC") but I can't be certain of that. I do think that a professional cleaning would be well worth the investment...

George Philbert Charles Maroniez, French (1865-1933). Oil on Canvas; "Surf". Signed G Maroniez, Lower Right. Gilt frame. Dimensions; 18" x 15"; site 10" x 8". Excellent condition. George Maroniez was a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1889, and started exhibiting there when he was just 22. He won several awards and was made Knight of the Legion of Honor.

Oil on canvas bucolic landscape, a figure tending to haystacks in a tawny field, a towering tree looking over it all, 19 1/2" by 30", (26" by 35 1/2 " framed), signed at lower right by late nineteenth century English artist G CLAYTON. There are a few works by the artist in the auction records but I see no biography. Judging from the subject matter,handling, and materials, the work would likely date to about 1890...

Inscribed, signed, and dated verso: "Scena d'Amore Affresco Della Casa Romana De La Farnesina--Pierre Carron--1964". 9" by 14" work alone, 14" by 19" in its frame. This work dates from the end of Carron's residency at the Villa Medici (1961-1964) in Rome, where he met Balthus who directed the establishment. Carron had already won the Grand Prix de Rome by that time in 1960...

A PAIR of contemporary unframed 8" by 10" oil on canvas paintings of whitewashed buildings and blue seas, as one would see in Santorini or another of the famous Greek Islands of the Aegean Sea, one work signed lower right "Billis". These were likely souvenirs of a great vacation, brought home by tourists wanting some imagery to remind them of the spectacular Greek Islands. I have removed the frames, which were damaged and useless...
