Attributed to Henri-Alphonse Barnoin, French, 1882-1935. "Marché du plage de Concarneau", depicting the seaside market outside the Brittany fishing village of Concarneau. The town is clearly identifiable from the distinctive town ramparts and tower in the background. In the foreground, Breton women in traditional dress gather to buy and sell foodstuffs while a few fisherman in small boats work at the shore. The loose brushwork is more in the style of Barnoin's pastels and gouaches...

A very poetic landscape, oil on board, 18" by 13" (24 1/2" by 19 1/2" in gold frame), the scene an idyllic mountain setting, a large and important-looking house at left, a water wheel at right powering a mill, a tiny female figure and goats at left relaxing on a lawn. The light is luminous, handled well by an obviously talented hand. The artist, who signed at lower left in green, is FERDINAND SOMMER (1822-1901)...

A contemporary painting featuring the streets of Paris' famous Montmartre, the dome of white Sacre Coeur cathedral towering over narrow streets filled with pedestrians. Lovely antique oil signed at extreme lower right corner by the Dutch master artist JAN JACOB COENRAD SPOHLER (1837-1923), the subject a classic canal in summer, the scene including windmills, boats, houses, churches (Utrecht, Leiden?) and tiny figures. The work measures 8 1/2" by 13 1/2" (10 1/2" by 15 1/2" in older 20th century frame). The work is very typical of his paintings, many of which show ice skaters in the winter. Larger works have reached $40,000 at auction in the Netherlands...
A rather elegant landscape painting with a modern feeling, the predominating colors subdued yet elegant grays and earth tones, signed rather illegibly with a European hand at lower right corner and dated there 53. The unframed work on canvas measures 23 1/2" by 31 1/2". Signature looks something like "Oltarini" or "Ott....." or "Ult....." but despite years of trying to figure this out I have not succeeded...
A large oil on canvas (26 1/2" by 38 1/2", and 32 1/2" by 44 1/4" framed) painting of a forest of evergreen and birch near a picturesque winding creek, likely in eastern Europe, signed at lower left somewhat indecipherably (probably a listed artist). The name may be Lithuanian or other Baltic state. The work is beautifully painted but has darkened with surface soiling and old varnish...
Oil on canvas painting (29 1/2" by 23", and 34" by 27 1/2" framed) of hunted ducks suspended from a nail, and two other colorful, deceased birds arrayed outside a window on a weathered Mediterranean wall, a mischievous cat emerging from that window at lower left to do what cats do. The painting is signed at lower right by the noted Italian late 19th century artist MICHELANGELO MEUCCI (1840-1909), who specialized in just this sort of view...
A fine 17th century Dutch landscape by Solomon Van Ruisdael oil on oak panel 19 x 25.5 inches signed lower right. A contemporary painting in Old Master style, the subject a Dutch street scene with no less than eight figures, a church in the center background. The unframed 24" by 20" oil on canvas is signed at lower right corner "W. Caufield" (or "Canfield"). Note the attention to detail in the cobblestones and stone buildings (which are snow-dusted). The style derives from classic Dutch Old Masters and 19th century painters such as Cornelis Springer, Adrianus Eversen, and others. Condition is excellent...
A finely painting oil on canvas landscape of a windmill in moonlit landscape, a structure at left with a glowing window, the clouds luminous with the eerie light, and possibly some grazing animals at right, the work apparently UNSIGNED. The detailed meticulous handling suggests an early 19th century date---or possibly even earlier; the work has an Old Master feeling. Measurements are 18" by 24" (21 1/2" by 28" in traditional style old walnut frame with gold fillet). I have searched carefully ...

Frantesek Kupka, 1871-1957, Opocno. Bohemia, Czech, and died in France. This stunning early mordernist painting is an early and an
extremely fine example of Kupka's painting. It is approximately 17"H by 13"w in a 4" frame.
