This dated 1848 portrait is believed to be of David Schofield Painter, who was William Bell Scott's brother-in-law. The condition of this oil on canvas is not good. A great deal of this painting has been reworked!!

Italian. 17th-18th Century, Oil on Copper, 21"w by 15.25"h in an antique frame 26.25"w by 22"h. On the verso is an antique inscription that attributes the painting to Jean Honore'Fragonard 1775. The inscription is obviousely antique and written in English.

Charles Brooking, 1723-1759, English. This oil on panel is a fine example of the early work of Charles Brooking, known as one of the finest British Maritime painters. It is 13" by 19" in a handsome newer frame (overall dimensions of 16 3/4" by 22 2/4".) The condition is good and it is signed indistinctly (as many of his paintings are) on the piece of wood floating in the lower front of the painting.
