HOWARD" and date "OCT. 74" on the stretcher. There is an African-American artist by the name Humbert Howard but this work does not resemble the work I see out there on the net...

In the style of popular Thomas Kinkade or Marty Bell, this is an original oil on canvas, 11" by 14" (17" by 20" framed), the subject a cozy cottage-like house set in a flowering garden, the welcoming lights all on. The painting is signed at lower left "N LaFond". If you enjoy the Kinkade style but would like an original work instead of a print, you may well like this piece. Condition is excellent, frame has a little wear.

The artist has signed in the wet paint at lower right, and on the reverse, she wrote "To Lenore Hudson/Painted at Ebell Club/Feb. 1993/May the joy of the desert allure bloom in your heart {I believe that is what the last line reads, not certain}/Best always/Kathi Hilton"...

Oil on thin canvas painting of a classic American Indian with chief's feather headdress, executed in a charmingly naive style by an amateur artist around the year 1960 I would guess. The work measures 17" by 14" in its oak simple sturdy frame. When purchased it was behind broken glass, so has survived in excellent, clean condition. There might be a signature "Viv" at lower right corner...

In the tradition of Victorian rose paintings of the late 19th and early 20th century, here is an unframed work, canvas laid on board, 11 1/2" by 21 1/2", signed at lower right "IDMAY". The painting likely dates to the early years of the 20th century, a time when young girls were encouraged to take up the "ladylike" skill of flower painting. "IDMAY" might have been Ida Mae----one of these young ladies. Our artist was of average skill, but her handiwork has outlived her...

Gasser/April 1937/La Crescenta Calif". The work measures 12" by 16" (16" by 19 1/2" framed). The artist does not appear to be listed or known but was talented. An early scene in what is today a highly desirable upscale Los Angeles suburb backing up to the scenic Angeles National Forest.

A well-painted oil that reminds very much of the posters for JAWS, the terrifying 1970's movie in which an enormous shark terrorizes a summer beach coast community.
