Meierhans, b. - 1890 in Switzerland, emigrated to the United States in 1917, eventually settling in Bucks County. He studied under A.N.Lindenmuth and J. Sloan and was a member of the S.Indp.Artists, ASL, Provincetown A.A. and the American Abstract Artists.

Original oil on canvas attributed to Lillian Genth (American, 1876-1953), early 20th Century. This painting measures roughly 42" by 31" in its frame. It is initialed L.G. upper right, and interestingly enough inscribed "Nelson" (for George Laurence Nelson, with whom she painted in Connecticut) on the back. From the collection of Robert Austin, author of "Artists of the Litchfield Hills". This painting is in excellent condition.

Found in far northern Vermont in the course of an art buying trip some years ago, is this unframed 20" by 16" oil on canvas portrait of a man, apparently signed "Shoelman" at lower right and signed again and dated on the reverse (possibly, 1806, though, more likely, 1846, considering the style---the digit likely a "4"). I acquired the painting near Cambridge/Jeffersonville not far from the Canadian border...

This is a simple yet competently painted work by an artist whose identity remains unknown to me. A contemporary American painting of a tabby cat next to a vase with flowers, 13 1/2" by 10 3/4" (16" by 13" in white frame), signed at lower right RS and dated there 2008. I do not see a listing by this name so offer the painting on its decorative values. It is in fair condition, with soiling, stretcher bar show-through/uneven canvas, and two very small punctures at sky on right in a cloud at a few inches above the signature. If you like the painting you could hang it as-is, or you could invest money to fix it up.

For the last four years, I have researched every aspect of this self-portrait to confirm its artist identity!! Today, I can confirm the artist of this self-portrait, it is ROY FOX LICHTENSTEIN!! I was able to match the 1956 signature to the “rather primitive notion of patterned linear repetition”, or unknown markings (which look like Hebrew) on the side of an airplane in the RFL’s drawing “AIRPLANE 1961”.
