Oil on board painting (24" by 18", frame 1 1/4" on a side), the subject a dirt road in a flaming autumn forest landscape, birch trees on either side, the sun dappled shadows violet, signed at lower right by the talented artist GEORGE FOREST PAYNE. Payne does not seem to have a biography but his paintings of autumn landscapes and coastal dunes, in the Northeast, have appeared at auction. This piece was found in Maine. Most certainly he was very familiar with Impressionist technique...

Oil on masonite painting of a reclining nude woman, 24" by 36" (30" by 42" as framed), signed at upper right "W. R. Shulgold" and dated there "75". This is a beautiful work by a well listed painter who was born in Russia and spent much time in the Pittsburgh area, as well as New York, before settling in Southern California later in life. For the last four years, I have researched every aspect of this self-portrait to confirm its artist identity!! Today, I can confirm the artist of this self-portrait, it is ROY FOX LICHTENSTEIN!! I was able to match the 1956 signature to the “rather primitive notion of patterned linear repetition”, or unknown markings (which look like Hebrew) on the side of an airplane in the RFL’s drawing “AIRPLANE 1961”. Similar markings can be found on the RFL’s TEN DOLLAR BILL 1956 Lithograph...
