The work likely dates to the 1960's or early 1970's, judging from the present framing and materials used. Condition is excellent, the painting clean, with just a small amount of crazing...

PAIR of circa 1880 oil landscapes on panel, each 10 1/4" by 18 3/4" (15 3/4" by 24 1/2" in modern frames). The images of lakeside castles are classic 19th century European art. Small sail boats, feathery trees and ancient stone bridges complete the scenes. Each is signed with monogram like "A M" or "S M". I considered these might be by the famed German painter Adolph Menzel but think that unlikely...

It is signed "DC" lower right. It still bears verso the original gallery label from Galleries Maurice Sternberg in Chicago, as well as a brass plaque on the frame. Circa 1940. Possibly a study for a mural. It depicts the construction of a church in the Americas. In excellent condition.

Anatole Henri de Beaulieu, French, 1819-1884. This stunning and exotic painting is a wonderful example of the barbizon school in France. It is oil on canvas signed lower left in a very wide impressive 19th c original frame. It is 48.5" W by 27.5" H and framed is 65.5" W by 44.5" H. It appears to be a sunset scene in the orientalist manner of the 19th C, probably a scene in northern Africa. His paintings sell for up to $80,000.

It may have been a preliminary painting for a larger painting titled: "Play of Barns-Red" exhibited at the Owen Gallery in 2001. (size 28 x 30 inches). A charming and beautifully painted landscape done by George W. Drew (signed lower right) in the early 20th century. The scene depicts a country path following beside a river and wending around a wooden house. Adding to this idyllic scene are ducklings on the path and a woman in front of one of the cherry trees surrounding the house, The wonderful luminosity that Drew is well-known for is apparent in this work.
