Unusually fresh and well preserved watercolor on paper painting of a pond in a wooded area, spring wildflowers in the foreground, 13 3/4" by 19 1/2" inside the mat, 23 1/2" by 29" as framed, signed at lower right and dated there 1908 by the noted New England artist and teacher HENRY WEBSTER RICE (1853-1934). Vintage watercolor painting of the famous miniature drawbridge in the far western part of the island (Somerset Parish), actually signed twice at lower right "Worcester" or (less likely) "Norcester", and dated "42". I am so far unable to connect this to a known, listed artist working in the islands. The work measures 12" by 16" as framed. Note the typical, quaint old whitewashed stone Bermuda house at left and the white roofs and shutters...

Beautifully executed in black and gray with minimal color, understated still life of an old style tin coffee pot, cooking pot, and white cup, 8" by 10 1/2" inside the mat, 15 1/2" by 17 1/2" as framed. There is possibly a monogram in lower right corner but I cannot attach it to any particular artist...

Early watercolor on paper of flowers, I think petunias, in a ceramic vessel, 11" by 14", 17 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right indecipherably, and possibly dated 1901. I believe the artist is likely listed, considering the quality of the drawing. The paper was laid long ago on a board, as shown. Condition of the image area is excellent, with colors true and not faded.

SEILLARD". There is a small listing for the artist, and some trail of watercolors and a painting or two in the auction records...

Found in New Hampshire, this is an antique unsigned watercolor of a rocky coastline, sailing boats on the horizon. Measuring 13 1/2" by 19 1/2", the work on paper is glued down to an 1893 Salem, Massachusetts legal directory, the edges of which are crumbling. Those edges should probably be trimmed, and the watercolor then framed to preserve it for another century. Though simple and monochromatic, this is a work well worth preserving. One corner is brittle.

Watercolor on heavy paper of trees leaning over a lake, a swooping bird and small boat with primitive figures in the right lower portion, 12" by 21 1/2", signed at lower left "J. H. Dore" or "T. H. Dore". This is a late 19th century work with a primitive and folky touch. The green mat is too wide. Reframe this charming work with a smaller mat for optimum presentation.

Found in New England, it reminds of California eucalyptus school work. The artist would likely be someone listed. The age could be circa 1920's to 1950. The work sorely needs a proper mat and framing...

This fine old work (15 1/2" by 20", 19 1/2" by 31" framed) is a peaceful and poetic scene of a house by a lake, mountains visible beyond, the crescent moon above, signed lower right and dated there 1883 by the well known American 19th century painter EDMUND DARCH LEWIS (1835-1910). This is likely a scene from the Adirondacks or the White Mountains of New Hampshire...

Contemporary watercolor of the famous Pirates Alley in the French Quarter of New Orleans, 10 1/2" by 6 1/2" (18" by 14" in newer framing), signed at lower right. The work is beautifully painted by a talented hand that I cannot identify. Condition is excellent. There is a little bit of loss in the frame at upper left corner and lower center, showing as red areas. Some gold paint would cover these. See many other works of New Orleans in my shop.

Rockwell/Glacier National Park" on reverse board. This is a work by the California artist RICHARD LEROY CORBALEY (1882-1960). Corbaley was born in Indiana and according to the biography in Hughes' Dictionary of California Artists, he was in Los Angeles by 1902...

Watercolor on paper of gazelle running in an exotic subtropical landscape, 17 1/2" by 13 1/2" inside the mat (27" by 22" framed), unsigned, but obviously by an artist of talent. The work shows a striking visual energy, the animals frozen in mid-step. This could be a scene painted in Africa, or, it could be from the imagination of the artist. The painting probably dates to the 1930's or 1940's or thereabouts; there is an Art Deco feeling...

Large (20" by 24", 28 1/2" by 32 1/2" framed) watercolor on paper painting of a agriculture-related structure and machinery in a mountainous landscape, a figure at left, signed at lower right and inscribed there "Mexico 1940". The artist is WILLIAM T. McDERMITT (1884-1961), an Illinois-born artist most closely associated with California. This is an atmospheric fine little watercolor on paper painting of mountains and water such as might be found in the idyllic Lakes District of the northwestern part of England, or the famed Scottish Highlands, unsigned, late 19th century most likely, measuring 4 1/2" by 6 1/2" (14 1/2" by 17 1/2" in the present framing).
