For the collector of botanical drawings and art, a nice unframed 11 7/8" by 9 3/8" floral watercolor drawing highlighted with a little gum arabic in the nineteenth century tradition. It is not signed, but I think at lower left in old faint pencil it says "yellow aralia", and at bottom, very faint and barely visible, there is a lot of illegible pencil writing. This likely dates to the 1860's to 1880's period...

Good-sized watercolor painting of one of the famous canals of Venice, a gondolier and his vessel featured in the foreground, signed at lower left by the artist, B. Venuti. This work, 22" by 15" (31" by 23 1/2" in gilded old oak early twentieth century framing), probably dates to about the turn of the century. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name, though there is a "Benvenuti" who painted similar works, so I entertain the possibility that this might have been signed with a pen name...

Old (pre 1920, possibly as early as late 19th century) watercolor of coastal rocks, 10" by 14", the frame in which found measuring 18 1/2" by 22", signed at lower right "T. G. Stowers". The work, found in New England, was mounted on an old board years ago. As it was loose in the frame, I have removed it for photography, and will ship it between boards. The old frame has some losses and is available at no extra cost. Research to date has not led to a listed artist name that would correspond...

In the style of noted California artist Ellen Burpee Farr, this is a classic late nineteenth century watercolor of the distinctive leaves and "berries" of the pepper tree commonly seen in Southern California. Signed at upper left "A.C. Hough" (or "Haugh"---I don't see a listing for either name), this is a beautiful study that is possibly not finished (the leaves and berries at lower right---could be the artist's intention, or simply unfinished---you judge)...

An original watercolor painting, featuring a ceramic geisha, ceramic bird, and poppies in a bowl/vase, apparently unsigned, twentieth century. The work has been faded by sunlight over the years yet remains interesting. Measurements are 9" by 8 1/2" (15 1/2" by 15" in simple wood frame, which has a piece missing at upper extreme left corner). There are reflections at top of several images. Drawing is glued to a black backing sheet at top only (not fully "laid down"). E

Pinkey and bearing inscription on backing giving the history of the artwork. The artist was apparently just an amateur but she created...

An exceptional watercolor and gouache painting of a young girl carrying a pail, pondering the white ducks which move towards her on a tiny pond in a verdant bucolic rural landscape, a faint local church steeple in the distance the only other sign of man. This is one of the finer works by English listed artist FRED (sometimes FREDERICK) HINES (1860-1930). Hines specialized in rural scenes with figures; forests, lakes and ponds, and cottages populate his rural 19th century idyllic world, now lar...
