Oil on canvas still life painting, 16" by 20" and 22 1/2" by 26" framed, the subject several ceramic objects, including an oriental figure, an elephant, and a lustrous plate. The painting is signed at lower right "Elsie Crosam" or "Crosom", "Creson", or similar. The piece would be an excellent practice work for a budding restorer as there is a major rip in the center, as shown; or you might buff up the frame a bit and use it with another painting. There is light wear on it.

A pair of 8" by 10" oil on canvas paintings, unframed, one signed "Anton", the other "Chapman". One is dominated by lime green colors, with white birches, the other an autumnal scene of barn next to a creek at sunset. The former has "Shuk Ha Carmel, Tel Aviv" written on stretcher, along with "Birthright Trip December-January 2014-2015", the latter "Mountain House 2016/Franklin, NC". The autumnal scene has some paint losses around the edges from frame abrasion...

A colorful little original oil painting on canvas, not stretched but laid simply behind a hand-made paper mat then placed in a colorful decorative picture frame, no glass, 9" by 7" as framed, signed at left by artist and dated there 1996. No doubt a tourist art piece, it is quite charming, reminding of Haitian and other Caribbean folk art. Condition is excellent.

A colorful and decorative Haitian painting, the subject two women in white clothing at a market, with their baskets and fruits and lengths of cut sugar cane. The work is oil on thin unstretched canvas, in a simple black frame with black mat, and no glass. The piece measures 17 1/4" BY 21 1/4" as framed. The artist signed at lower right "Lauren C.".

Antique floral watercolor, the subject white wild roses, 11 1/2" by 7 1/2" (17 1/2" by 13 1/2" framed in light oak), signed at lower right "M. S. Robison". The paper is loose under the mat and has slipped, as photos of corner/edges show. Re-set in proper position and enjoy this well-executed piece.

Watercolor painting of a mountain landscape in autumn, signed at lower left with what appears as "F. Renaud". A brook or stream occupies the right center. This is a nicely painted work, 4 5/8" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, 8 3/4" by 10 3/4" simply framed. The watercolor probably dates to the 1960's or 1970's. Photos were taken with the present cloudy non-glare glass removed. I suggest discarding it permanently in favor of regular glass. Ready to hang on the wall as-is, though.

Circa 1950's oil on canvas of a mountain with cross on top, and what could be a small body of water in the foreground, painted in an impressionist hand. The scene could possibly be Mount Cristo Rey, a landmark with Christ cross on the summit, at the extreme southeast corner of New Mexico, overlooking the El Paso, Texas area. The work measures 16" by 18" and 21 1/2" by 24" framed. Sadly this became badly damaged at some point, with catastrophic tears through the composition...

A contemporary painting in semi-abstract style, the image apparently of a horse and his flowing mane, staring at the viewer. The work is unsigned. Acrylic on canvas, 16" by 20" (a regular size, easily framed). A twist on equine art.

A contemporary painting on canvas, unframed, 20" by 15 3/4", unframed, the theme seemingly an out-of-this-world painting of space and planets. Difficult to describe, but this sort of imagery is popular, similarsold along the Venice, California boardwalk and elsewhere by enterprising artists. Some of the white spatter seems to be sprayed on. Blue is the general color. Condition is excellent.

This is a pleasant unsigned oil on canvasboard landscape, 16" by 20" (20" by 24" simply framed), the subject a lake surrounded by low hills, a church at right and a few strolling figures at left. The work might be by an amateur or a listed artist but due to the lack of a signature the truth will never be known. There is a little even soiling consistent with an age of at least 40 years, and a small hairline abrasion at center which is not obtrusive...

Antique, circa 1910 unsigned watercolor on paper painting of a red-headed young woman with elaborate hat, carrying roses, 12" by 9 3/4" in modern-day but attractive and complementary gold framing. There are old condition issues (cracks in the board) at top portion in the hat, and hair, extending to the top edge. These were amateurishly taped on the back side...

A naive or self-taught style painting of a colorful hillside neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, known as Rocinha, signed at lower right by the artist "Jonathan", and dated there 27/02/04. The unframed 9 1/2"by 6 1/4" work pictures the Rocinha slum neighborhood. The artist has turned a place of notorious grinding poverty, despair and violence into a beautiful little work of art that transmits only happy thoughts...

A small, unframed oil on canvas landscape in a painterly hand, 8" by 10", signed at lower left with what appears as "Round" or similar. Found in Los Angeles, probably by a local talented impressionist painter. This being a standard size, you should be able to easily locate a flattering frame of your choice.

Small contemporary painting on canvas, 10" by 10", unframed. The work seems to be in mixed media, the yellows particular appearing to be gouache, the green strokes shiny, the remainder of the painting flat. A decorative piece.

Oil on rectangular canvas overlain by an oval frame, 6 1/2" by 9 1/4", (10 3/4" by 12 3/4" as framed), apparently signed by amateur artist "Jennifer" at bottom center below the frame line, circa 1970's or 1980's, the subject ducks flying above a marsh. On the stretcher is written "Canvas Backs". The artist certainly had some talent...

Pastel drawing of a path among trees at day's end, 9 1/2" by 5 3/4" (13" by 9" framed), signed at lower right by artist E. W. Rost, or possibly E. Vyrost (Vyrost is a Czech surname). The work has a Tonalist or Barbizon feeling. There is an American artist Rost but with different initials, and that artist created mostly etchings. Condition of the drawing is excellent, though the frame has considerable wear, especially at bottom and left.

Pastel drawing of a young girl seated in a chair, signed at lower right by American 20th century artist from Long Island, New York, Muriel Kahn, and dated 1967. The sheet measures 12" by 8 3/4". An inexpensive modern frame that would fit this is available at no extra charge, but the drawing will be sent between boards/paper...

Pastel on paper laid on board, 15 1/2" by 19 1/2" (19" by 23 1/2" as simply framed---no glass), signed at lower right by noted American pastel artist ANDREW GUNDERSON (1888-1964). This is a rather typical example by the artist, who is grouped today with such pastellists as William Chandler and Glatthaar...

An as-is condition example of the work of the much-storied American artist "T. Bailey", circa 1920, measuring 19 1/2" by 29 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right corner. The scene is of an east coast forest bordering a small lake, in autumn, the leaves changing. There is an interesting story about the artist who signed so many paintings "T. Bailey"...

An impressionist painting on canvas, unframed, 16" by 20", signed by a contemporary artist "RG", the subject a covered bridge of the northeastern states. The work is in excellent condition, and the standard size means it should be easy and economical to find a suitable frame.

Oil on canvas painting of rather ornate old buildings in a cityscape, " by ", unframed, signed at lower right, executed circa 1980. The tightly cropped scene shows evidence of an artistic hand, the buildings reminiscent of San Francisco's Victorian architecture, or even European architecture. There is a signature at lower right that I have been unable to decipher...

Watercolor on paper landscape, 10 1/2" by 7" inside the early-style gold mat, 18 1/2" by 14 1/2" as framed, signed in blue at lower right "J.A. HANCOX". No listings were found for this artist, but the work appears certainly to be of English origin. There is fairly heavy foxing especially at top in the sky, and a small bar of lighter paper there. It appears that the artist signed in lower right corner and then tried to rub it out there before re-signing it two inches higher up.

For the collector of Oregon or Northwest art, a small (6 1/2" by 8 1/2" in inexpensive wood frame), unsigned contemporary watercolor of a small river running past rugged, arid cliffs, titled on reverse "John Day River @ Black Rock". The John Day River is a tributary of the Columbia River, in north central Oregon. At 243 miles in length it is the third longest free-flowing river in the United States. It is known for its salmon and steelhead fishing...

A small (8 1/2" by 10 3/4" framed) oil on board painting of a white farmhouse with red chimney, red barn and classic windmill at center, circa 1900, signed faintly at lower right "A Sowell" or similar. The hand is primitive, charmingly naive; the scene could be nearly anywhere in the central or eastern United States, most likely the Midwest, Plains or east. A painting which brings on a peaceful feeling in the viewer, as it harkens back to simpler times.

Watercolor on quality paper, 7 3/4" by 11", 10 1/4" by 13 3/4" as framed, the subject the famous and iconic symbol of the Santa Fe and Taos region of northern New Mexico, the sanctuary near the town of Chimayo. The art is titled at lower left margin and dated there 2004, and signed "Benke" or similar at lower right. Condition is excellent. A decorative little item if you're looking for something that reminds you of your trip to that scenic and history-filled region of the country.

An old "cabin art" oil on soft paper board primitive style painting of Northern California's famed Mt. Shasta, towering over a rugged landscape including waterfall, tall trees, steep gorge, and a charming log house at left with smoke coming from the chimney. The painting measures 24 1/2" by 19 1/2", unframed. The board is warped, the surface uneven, and there is a snaking 8" crack in the board at right and small puncture at lower center. The work is delicate and requires very careful handling...

Oil on canvas, 8" by 10" and 1" wide frame, the subject a classic plein air landscape of the low desert. It is signed "Geraldine" at lower right, and on reverse is the inscription "To Dad Happy Anniversary from Mom". The painter was talented but no doubt still an amateur. This is a pleasant decorative painting that is ready to hang on the wall.

This is a very early watercolor, 9 1/2" by 5 3/4" framed, in the style of the early 19th century, titled at bottom "Double Rose", by an anonymous artist lost to time. His or her handiwork has survived likely 150 years or more but has lost a little color from fading, and the paper has browned. These are not faults---rather, they give the drawing age and character. Old American landscape with trees framing a lake, 8" by 10", 12" by 13 3/4" in the gold frame, signed at lower right with name "H. Wolosky". The oil on board work probably dates to the 1920's or 1930's. I do not see an obvious artist name that I could link to this piece. A Cooper Union (New York City) old circular label remains affixed to the back of the board. Condition is vintage good, no problems.

The watercolor is unsigned, 6" by 8 1/2", 10" by 13" as simply framed, the scene tall forest trees and distant mountains; there is either a stream or pathway in the foreground. I'd think it has some age, but probably not before about 1970. The artist was talented, and this will decorate a small wall nicely.

A late 19th century small oil on artist board, unsigned, the subject a quiet glen with small waterfall and pond or creek in a forest. The work measures 14 1/2" by 9 1/2" in likely the original gold frame (now with a missing area at top right corner). A cleaning would work wonders. Old Kansas City framer's label and art board shows a Chicago origin.

Oil on canvas painting, unsigned, 24" by 12", in pinkish wood strip framing. The colors of the painting could be described as creamy light pink with some green. The work might have some age as it appears that "12-81" is written on the stretcher, possibly a date; and olden-days "$2.03" price is stamped on inside of the frame. There is a three-dimensional relief in places, where the artist spread the paint. No varnish, dull surface.

Oil on cotton canvas, unframed, 12" by 15 7/8", the scene female figures in a marketplace with their baskets of foodstuffs, signed at lower right center "Getro". This work likely dates to the 1980's or later and is representative of the colorful folk art works produced for tourists by the many talented artists in the country. Small oil on canvas laid on board painting of a street scene in Paris, the work somewhat resembling the familiar paintings of A. de Vity. It measures 15" by 11" framed and is not signed. Paintings of Paris streets are ever-popular. A ballpoint pen date on the reverse backing paper (3/24/72) gives some insight into when this painting was created. See other Parisian views in my shop.
