19th century. hand painted miniature on card, depicting a European woman adorned with flowers, the image measuring 2" x 1.5", mounted in a coin silver scalloped rim bezel c.1860-1880. Good condition.

An interesting contemporary abstract painting on canvas, 25 1/4" by 25 1/4" as framed, signed illegibly at lower right corner, featuring blackish and reddish rectangles arranged in a manner suggesting the works of famed twentieth century American artist Mark Rothko. This stylish work will easily complement your modern or mid century interior. Condition is excellent. Probably dates to the 1980's or 1990's. Nice texturing and skilled blending techniques (edge blurring) is evident...

A modernistic oil thin canvas, laid on plywood, signed at lower left in Hebrew script. The subject is a still life including cup and saucer, what appears to be a pitcher, and other table top items arranged in an intentionally shallow space. The work measures 18 1/2" by 22" and is unframed. The wood panel has warped with time, causing the work to be concave. A restorer could likely remove from the wood and place it on another canvas but of course that would come at a cost...

A 20th century painting of a luminous, dramatic coastal sunset, the final light of the day reflecting on the rolling, beautifully depicted waves and aqua water, an interesting tree at right on the promontory adding balance and interest. The painting, unframed, 24" by 36", is not signed on the front but on the reverse is "Casati"...

Detailed antique watercolor drawing of a country villa in a park-like setting, an elegant horse-drawn carriage approaching from left, 6" by 9 3/8" (11 1/4" by 14 1/2" in modern day frame), signed at lower right "Herter" and dated there 1838. The villa seems to have Italian or other Mediterranean architectural characteristics, so perhaps we are in Italy, and the artist is a traveler from Germany. This is all speculation as I cannot locate an appropriate artist of this name...

Gouache on paper drawing of a Baltimore Oriole and a blue jay, 12 1/2" by 16" (23 3/4" by 28" framed), signed at lower right by the noted Disney illustrator AUGUST CURLEY LENOX (1908-1986). This is a really nicely executed work, in the style of an illustrator like Lynn Bogue Hunt or William Schaldach or Rex Brasher. Colors are vivid and the realism is such that the viewer can almost "hear" these birds. I suppose it could have been executed as a book or magazine illustration...

Oil on canvas American painting of a clipper foundering in a storm, 20" by 27" (22 1/2" by 29 1/2" in a nice old gold period frame), unsigned, circa 1870's. The work strongly resembles that of American marine artist CLEMENT DREW (1806-1889) but is unsigned. The painting is in poor condition currently. It appears to have had a reline decades ago, and likely overpainting. Now there is craquelure throughout, flaking paint and other issues...

Watercolor with touches of gouache painting, on heavy grade watercolor paper, the subject a small ranch on a coastline, 18" by 29" (26" by 39" framed), unsigned, the subject I feel possibly in Hawaii or Australia, given the scenery and the obvious tropical touch (the plantation-shutters and banana trees, and the detail of the front of the structure). Unfortunately I have not been able to locate a signature anywhere...

Oil on canvas laid on board landscape of a river in a mountainous scene including a few picturesque structures, signed with initials "LJGC" at lower left, and dated there 1904. There is a high likelihood that the artist who created this attractive painting was from mountainous Wales in the British Isles, as I have seen another painting online, identically signed, dated 1914, the scene depicted in that example given as the River Wye in Wales...

This is a beautifully painted work, oil on canvas, measuring 24" by 16" (images show as framed, but frame is now unaccounted for), signed at lower right by noted 20th century Hungarian artist Antal Janczak (1907-1985, also spelled as Janczek). The artist's works sell regularly at auction in Europe. This one probably dates to the 1960's or 1970's...

In the style of famous American abstractionist Sam Francis (1923-1994) is this abstract oil (acrylic?) on canvas "splatter" or "drip" painting, unframed, 25" by 23 1/2", unsigned. The work appears to have some age, to perhaps the 1970's. Note the width of the stretcher (almost two inches). The painting is very clean and would make a smashing decorative work for the most modern of interiors...

Watercolor on paper of two spaniels, the hunter nearby in a wooded landscape, " by ", unframed, signed at lower left with monogram that resembles the monogram of noted American artist JAMES DAVID SMILLIE (1833-1909). This is obviously an American work, not European, but I cannot confirm that it's by the noted American artist James David Smillie. I researched the monogram and see the clear resemblance to that of Smillie...

Found in New Hampshire, and bearing the label of a contemporary Portland, Maine frame shop, a watercolor painting of an old barge grounded on the shore of a creek adjacent to a woodland, a small house in the distance. The 11" by 14" work (17 1/2" by 20" framed) is signed at lower left and dated there "80". The signature appears to read "Ranger", as in Henry Ward Ranger (1858-1916), a well-known American artist. This is a possibility but could be difficult to confirm. At some effort, I opened...

I do not see a "listed" artist name that would correspond. The work much resembles that of California impressionist landscape artist James Merriam (1880-1951). Condition is excellent.

Large, impressive 1981 painting of an arched stone footbridge over a brook in a leafy, park-like setting, 38" by 50" framed, signed at lower right TOSTRUP. There is a listed artist by the name of Axel Tostrup (born 1947) but I am not certain that this is that artist. What is certain is that the painting is beautifully executed by a talented hand. The sun-dappled effect would have been difficult to achieve; the work features excellent handling of light and shadow. It is in excellent condition...
