The work's quality means the artist must be listed but try as I might, I cannot decipher the name. More than likely the work is circa 1890. Condition is excellent. I opened the old backing in hopes of finding more information or writing but there was none to be found...

This is a really pretty watercolor on heavy watercolor paper by an obvious talent, 14" by 20" (22 1/2" by 28 1/4" as framed), the subject picturesque boats tied up along the banks of an idyllic stretch of river, a boathouse at left and a few figures completing the impressionist composition. The work's varieties of impressionistic blues are quite lovely, and there is simply excellent handling of color and light. The only fault, really, is that the artist did not sign the piece...

After a spiritual revelation, the saint lived as a hermit, often flagellating himself with a scourge and beating himself with rocks. This is a rather unusual and visually arresting contemporary work by a Japanese or Japanese-American artist, signed at top right "Yasushi Saito" and dated there '78.
