Oil on canvas painting of fruits, bottles and other objects, painted in a highly impressionist style, 12" by 16", unframed. The painting bears a signature "G d E" at lower right, added later (very obviously "floats"---dark under UV light) for French artist Georges d'Espagnat (1870-1950). So we have here a likely American painting, I think circa 1950's or so, that is very nicely done and quite decorative. There's very small paint loss at lower edge from past frame abrasion...
Gouache and watercolor on paper landscape titled on reverse "Arab Village Near Jerusalem", measuring 14 5/8" by 19 3/4" (26" by 29" as framed), signed at lower right "WM. D. RAFFEL" and dated 1954. This is a beautifully executed work in fine condition save for a cracked (but not detached) upper left corner due to brittleness likely caused by aging...
A circa 1840s American Portrait in oil. Unsigned measuring 30x25”
An antique, early 19th-century, circa 1804 A.D. French Napoleonic miniature portrait, finely hand-painted with a fine brush in watercolor and gouache on a natural wafer. This miniature is contemporary with the Napoleonic period and depicts young Napoleon Bonaparte as the First Consul of The French Republic.
The painting is a masterful display of the artist's exceptional skills...
Henri Edmond Cross, French, 1856-1910. This exquisite watercolor is 18.8cm W by 13.8cm,

Oil on canvas painting of a marketplace in a Sumatran landscape, unframed, 15 3/4" by 21 1/2", signed at lower right by Indonesian impressionist artist MUSLIM SALEH (1927-). This signature was difficult to decipher but a little research on the net established the identity of the artist. He was born in West Sumatra and learned from Japanese painters during the World War II occupation years. Subsequently he participated in the Indonesian Revolution...
A finely limned painting, done in watercolor on natural wafer, and attributed to Francois Ferriere. The sitter is a woman dressed in a white gown with a ruffled collar and shown against a grayish blue background.
The frame is period and the painting is mounted so that the backing paper is under glass and visible on the reverse of the frame, displaying the following identification "Ann Moffat died 20th May 1805 aged 32 years"...

Oil on canvas painting of a forest, 18" by 18", in its original oak frame 22" by 22", signed at lower right in red "MOORE" and dated there 1927 or 1924. The painting is a beautiful example of American impressionism of the early 20th century, with some really lovely colors hiding under the grime of nearly 90 years. The artist was obviously a talent to be reckoned with, though with the common last name it is difficult to attribute this to any particular Moore...
Oil on canvasboard, 16" by 12" (19 1/2" by 15 1/2" as framed), the subject trees in flaming autumn colors along a quiet dirt forest road, signed at lower right "P.L. King", no date but likely circa late 1940's or 1950's. For a time I had thought it possible that this was a work of the noted American impressionist PAUL KING (1867-1947) but I no longer believe that to be the case, so I am offering it as simply an interesting impressionistic landscape...

A lovely ink and watercolor drawing, 10" by 13" (22" by 28" framed), featuring two elegantly dressed early 20th century women strolling in a park-like setting, as a gentleman on horseback passes by headed in the other direction. The work is signed at lower left by LUDOVIC-RODO PISSARRO (1878-1952), one of four sons of famous French impressionist artist Camille Pissarro. "Rodo" as he was often called throughout his life, was born in Paris and early on received training from his father...
A very poetic landscape, oil on board, 18" by 13" (24 1/2" by 19 1/2" in gold frame), the scene an idyllic mountain setting, a large and important-looking house at left, a water wheel at right powering a mill, a tiny female figure and goats at left relaxing on a lawn. The light is luminous, handled well by an obviously talented hand...
Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a late autumn landscape, complete with flaming trees and distant hillside across a lake, 9 1/2" by 13" (13"by 17" in old likely original frame),signed at lower right by American artist Isabel Scott. The painting likely dates to the years before 1950---possibly to the 1930's I am thinking. Condition is excellent. I do not see biographical information on any artist that would correspond to this name. A pleasing and affordable autumnal scene firmly in the...
Oil on canvas, 25 1/2" by 18" (32 1/2 by 24 1/2" as framed), apparently unsigned, circa 1930 to 1950, and very probably European (French or perhaps Scandinavian, judging from the stretcher). The painting is something of a mystery, the mysterious hand and spectacles at lower left coming from outside the image area. Almost certainly this was created by a listed artist but without a signature I cannot go further on that front. On the reverse stretcher appear the words "Vendredi" (Friday, in Frenc...
Decorative old antique floral painting, 17 1/4" by 13 1/4" (20 3/4" by 16 3/4" framed), unsigned, featuring a variety of flowers, including a tulip, in a decorative metallic vessel, all against a dark background, in the style going back to 17th century Holland. It is hard to know exactly how old the work is but mid 19th century would likely be a good guess. The canvas weave is rather coarse, promoting the earlier look. The piece is convincingly old, with some small losses and extensive craque...
This is a early 19th century American Folk Art Oil on canvas Portrait of a gentleman by Erastus Salisbury Field. This could possibly be a self-portrait of Field. He is seated in a chair and he is wearing a stick pin and has a gold chain. It is in its original frame and the frame has some damage and has been repainted gold. The canvas is in untouched condition except for two small marks. It measures 14" x 12" outside the frame. This painting came from an estate in Pass Christian, Miss. If you nee...

YANKEL GINZBURG (American, b. Kazakhstan, 1945)

A beautiful work unsigned from the 1960s measuring 22x18” oil on canvas. Geometric patterns on a dark background
Circa 1960's drip painting on paper, 22 1/2" by 18", unsigned, mounted to a thin board. This is not a Jackson Pollock or Sam Francis, but it is a work of art and it has age. The thin paper is glued down at least at the edges and possibly in the center as well. The paper is browned where it has been under the mat for many years, (about 1 3/4" to about 1/2") and there is puckering where the paper has been glued. There is actually a 1 1/2" long hole visible in the composition near the dark blue...
A poetic landscape with tree and path on the bank of a small lake or large pond, signed at lower right "Zalich" or similar, 9 1/2" by 13" (15 1/2" by 18 3/4" framed), circa 1960. Condition is excellent, frame has a bit of wear consistent with age. The scene is simple but very calming.
An old oil on gray board painting of a stone bridge over the Seine River in central Paris, in high autumn. The work measures 9" by 12" (11 3/4" by 14 3/4" in attractive maybe 1930's frame). The signature at lower left appears to be "E Turner", the "E" placed on top of the "T". If I am reading this correctly, there does not appear to be a listed artist that would correspond. In any event, the work is excellent, and by a trained hand.
An original oil painting on board by Cecil C. Bell signed lower center and on reverse. Measuring 22 x 30 inches. The painting of a New York nocturne featuring a Westside cowboy of the The New York central line. West Side Cowboys were employed by the City to ride in front of street-level freight trains and wave pedestrians out of the way. This was the City’s stopgap measure to stop the carnage on what was known as “Death Avenue.” The Cowboys were phased out after the High Line was built, ra...

Irene Rice Pereira (1902-1971) was an American abstract artist and writer who played a significant role in the development of modernism in the US. Pereira’s subject matter involves industrialism, mechanization, and geometric abstraction.

Pastel on paper laid on board drawing of trees and fields, a shed providing a human element, 7" by 9" (11" by 12 3/4" framed), signed at lower right "R. Nourse". This is a very fine little drawing with a touch of post-impressionist Van Gogh and other artists especially in the branches and trunks of the tall trees. The only listed artist with the name Nourse is Elizabeth Nourse. I see there is a Rebecca Nourse but the time period does not correspond to the drawing which likely dates to the mid...
