The print consists of vertical strokes, a mid-1960s series of six different images. The sun is large and shimmering. The paper is very heavy; the print is in good condition. It measures 12.5 “ x 18”.

In the last year of Maki’s life, Daniel Tretiak tells us, he was ill but continued to work. He did lithographs on shikishi board, which was a hard board covered in white rice paper. The back was yellow with a small design in gold and the whole board is gold-edged. Poem 8B is one of those works done in the 1999-2000 period.

A fine woodcut print on Japan type thin, delicate paper, 8 1/2" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, no frame, signed in pencil at lower right and dated there 1931, a monogram in the printed image at lower left, adn inscribed "To Hal" at lower left, by the well listed artist IGNATZ SAHULA-DYCKE (1900-1982). The dramatic subject is mysterious and difficult to describe: a woman, perhaps somewhat sinister or even possibly Death, comforts a young girl, as a younger boy looks on from the right lower corner...

This is an etching by the important American artist JOHN SLOAN (1871-1951), titled "Dupont's Ride", on wove paper, in an edition of apparently 1,000 examples, published in Boston in 1902 by the Frederick Quinby Company. It is part of a series issued to illustrate the writings of French novelist Charles Paul deKock.
