Haku Maki Poem 71 92 - was done in 1971, one of the four years in which Maki did over 100 different prints. In 1971 he did about 5 Big prints – at least two sides are over 30 inches. In his total oeuvre he did 20+ big ones but only one Yellow This is it. It seems to be a single yellow stroke piercing the black; it is also the kanji for Mind in Maki’s mind...

Burman was born in Calcutta, but has spent most of his life in Paris, with frequent trips to his homeland for inspiration and renewal...

Done in 1992, Poem 5 is a very stylized take on the kanji for woman女. Maki did many, many versions of woman. All of them are interesting, most of them striking. To me, this dramatic rendering strays the furthest from the actual character. Daniel Tretiak called this a Square Woman. This was done using the silkscreen process; it is not an embossed woodblock print. It measures 11.5in x 11.5 in.

By the noted American photographer CHRISTOPHER FAUST (born 1955) is this black and white silver print photograph "Seattle Art Museum", 1995, measuring 5" by 12 1/2" (21 1/2" by 25 1/2" in contemporary-looking black frame under Plexi). The motorized sculpture in the plaza, "The Working Man", is by Jonathan Borofsky. It is today an iconic piece of the downtown Seattle scene.
