Daniel Tretiak wrote about prints that were new to him (in 2017) that included, in my (LDT)view, one of the strangest, hard-to-decipher prints that the artist ever did, Bai-1. It was an early one, created in 1958.

A large aquatint with hand coloring titled, “LORD NELSON’S FUNERAL PROCESSION BY WATER, FROM GREENWICH HOSPITAL TO WHITE HALL, JAN.8TH, 1806.” The print was published March 1 1806 by Edward Orme. The following are printed on the print, “Turner pinxt.” Lower left, “Published and sold March 1 1806, by Edwd. Orme Engraver_Printseller to the King and Royal Family, 59 Bond Street London.” center and “J. Clark & H. Merke sculp.” lower right...

Albert W. Barker, American, 1874-1947, "Upper Barn, Winter," etching, 8 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches on 14 x 11 1/2 inch watermarked wove type paper. C. 1932. Initialed and dated on stone in the lower right, pencil signed in the lower right. Edition of 55. Catalog: Barker 122. The dark outline of the barn, with its modernistic texture and shadows, contrasts with the luminous winter sky. One of Barker's best prints.

Harold Kerr Eby, American, 1889-1946, "The Lobster Fleet," etching, 9 3/8 x 11 1/2 inch etching and sandpaper ground on wove type paper, ed. 100. Cat: Giardina 193. Printed in 1937. Pencil signed "Kerr Eby imp", the "imp" indicating that Eby printed this impression himself. Kerr Eby was a remarkable printmaker and a member of the Cos Cob Art Colony and friends with many of the important artist of the day, including Childe Hassam and John Taylor Arms...

This, like many of his research notes, was an addendum to his book, The Life and Works of Haku Maki, which he published in 2007. He wrote an Appendix to the book called Chasing Maki. It is his story of buying prints and collecting images of Maki prints. This research note, written 10 years later, is about one of his chases, a chase that failed. Dan wrote: Please enjoy.
