A colorful print "Share Chanukah with the Children of Israel", pencil signed at lower right margin and numbered 46/150 at lower left, by the eastern Europe-born, Jewish-American artist CHAIM GROSS (1904-1991). The work measures 22" square (23 1/4" square in metal frame with detail-dulling non-glare style glass). Gross was well known for his "direct carving" sculpture in wood and stone, and began experimenting with printmaking as far back as 1929...

The work measures 17" by 13 3/8" inside the innermost mat and 24" by 20 1/4" as framed. The dreary scene was captured by a talented photographer. Original, very scarce (edition of 30?) unframed 1909 etching known as "Pittsburgh, no. II", signed at lower right center in pencil by the important American etcher, illustrator, critic, author and teacher JOSEPH PENNELL (1857-1926). Evidently, Pennell himself printed this particular example as "imp" is written after his name. The sheet, heavily trimmed at three sides as seen, measures 9" by 12"...

A PAIR of pencil signed prints, one titled "Hearts and Flowers", the other "Summer Symphony", both pencil signed at lower right by noted highly collected American 20th century folk art artist JANE WOOSTER SCOTT (1920-). "Hearts and Flowers" is numbered 815/1375, and "Summer Symphony" is numbered in Roman Numerals "CCCLXXXVII/CD" (387/400). A PAIR of old engravings from the Passion of Christ series of 14, engraved originally in 1521 by Dutch old master engraver LUCAS VAN LEYDEN (1494-1533). My research leads me to believe these two are apparently later impressions printed on wove rather than laid paper, by noted Flemish engraver Jan Harmansz Muller (1571-1628). (Wove, as opposed to "laid" paper, was not invented until the mid 18th century). The talented Muller made skilled and faithful copies after earlier artists' works...

A lovely hand colored scene, "City of Providence", engraved by listed American 19th century artist ASA COOLIDGE WARREN (1819-1904) after an apparent painting by artist R. Hinshelwood (see lower right margin for that name). Robert Hinshelwood (1812-1879) came from England circa 1835; he was an engraver, etcher and painter. The panoramic view is from a high point, and some tiny figures in the composition add human interest...

A rare opportunity to acquire a print by California master artist JESSIE ARMS BOTKE (1883-1971), known for her distinctive, highly decorative, finished works in oil and watercolor, often featuring exotic birds, with gold and silver leaf backgrounds. Her prints rarely encountered. This example is titled "Fish Shacks" at lower left margin, and is pencil signed at lower right margin. The work measures 8 3/4" by 11" inside the existing mat (the sheet approximately 13" by 15")...

A lithograph print of a typical northern New Mexican adobe house of the Santa Fe and Taos region, signed in the plate at lower center with what appears as "J Hill" and dated nearby 48. The black and white image measures 6 1/4" by 9 1/4" inside the mat, 15" by 17 1/2" in simple black wood strip frame. Not examined out of frame but appears very clean and fresh. I have not been able to locate a listed artist by this name that would correspond to this work.

A fine example of the etcher's art---an original etching titled in lower margin "The Smoker", signed in plate at lower left "Meissonier" (and date that looks like 1818), signed again at extreme lower right corner by Paul Adolphe Rajon (1843-1888). This is after a circa 1850's original painting by the important 19th century French painter JEAN-LOUIS-ERNEST-MEISSONIER (1815-1891). Rajon created the etching after the painting, in the 1870's...

Etching, 4 3/4" by 6 5/8" inside the mat, 10" by 12 1/2" in simple black strip frame, titled in pencil at left margin "A Bermuda Lane" and signed in margin in pencil at lower right by artist RAY ALLEN. I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. The impression is strong, with a distinct plate mark. Disregard false yellow colors in some of the photos, which are an effect of the camera...

A **PAIR** of mid century offset prints after earlier works by the famous Russian-French Jewish artist MARC CHAGALL (1887-1985) These prints are both hand signed in blue ballpoint pen in margins by Chagall at lower right (considered what is called a "complimentary signature"), perhaps at a special gallery or printer event. They appear to have been framed in the 1950's or 1960's at latest and remain sealed since then. I believe the signatures to be authentic and will stand by that being the case...

A black and white photograph of one of the most famous of the French chateaux, the Chateau de Chenonceau on the River Cher in France's Loire Valley, the work signed at lower right margin in ink with what appears as "D. Esicaud/Tours". Tours is a city in the region. The piece measures 18" by 14" and 23 1/2" by 19 3/4" as framed. Condition is excellent. The castle dates to the early 1500's and is a major site on the tourist circuit of France.

This is a wood engraving print titled "Les Visages", by the important French artist GEORGES ROUAULT (1871-1958). The print measures 7" by 8 3/4" inside the mat (13 3/4" by 15 1/2" as framed). I believe that this is from the edition published at a later date (circa 1960's) by the Collectors' Guild of New York; the print is dated in the plate 1927, and signed in the plate at lower right. The condition is very good with even very light toning of the paper. Rouault is a major French Fauvist and Exp...

Original lithograph in colors, on smooth wove paper, "Stars" (French version was known as "Etoiles"), 1938, after a gouache by the well-known important Russian modern artist WASSILY KANDINSKY (1866-1944). This print, signed at lower left in the stone with Kandinsky's "K" monogram, was published by Teriade, Paris, for publication in the French avant-garde magazine Verve. The edition, printed by Mourlot, consisted of approximately 2000 or 2500 impressions. This example is in good condition thou...

This is a decorative, hand colored print, possibly dating to 1784, issued as a plate in "New and Complete British Traveller", titled at bottom "View of Hackney in Middlesex". Presently the print itself measures 6" by 6 3/4" (10 3/4" by 12 3/4" in simple black wood frame). I see from online research that this example seems to have been cut down, with all decorative border areas, and the name of the publisher, Alex Hogg, at the Kings Arms, No. 6 Paternoster Row, trimmed away. The print neverthe...
