This is a pair of engravings from Peterson's Magazine, 1877 and 1882, both nicely hand colored. Size as framed 18" by 20". The prints, titled "Les Modes Parisiennes" are very clean inside the mats. There are vertical central creases as no doubt issued. These would make for a pleasing addition to a bedroom or lady's feminine dressing area. Allow for reflections in some images.

Robert Shaw was a contemporary of Howard Pyle and J.D. Chalfont. - He is best known for his Delaware scenes and did not exhibit widely outside Wilmington and seems to have had little interest in exhibiting nationally. He did, however, show in the Delaware Building at the World's Columbian Exposition and also at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1890. This work is dated 1909

A **PAIR** of etchings, 21" by 17" as identically framed, one a still life of flowers in a vase in an interior, the other of a mother holding her child, only the floral work pencil signed, rather illegibly, at lower right (signature beginning with the "Sz...." common in Hungarian), and titled in Hungarian at lower left (as a Hungarian-speaker tells me) "Still Life" or "Flower Still Life". On the reverse backing of one is written in English "from Budapest--July 1966"...

What fun this print is—a swirl of kanji virtually unreadable but a delight to the eye. 79-9 was done in 1979 and measures 9.25in W x 10.75in H. The print is in excellent condition.

Serigraph print entitled "Earthship" by the artist Mayumi Oda (b. 1941). Takarabune or "Treasure Ship" of Japanese folklore is usually piloted by the Seven Lucky Gods and laden with magical objects. Here, the ship is steered by Mother Earth who cradles our planet in her lap. The ship is brimming with plants and animals, the wondrous treasures of nature. This print is signed in gold pencil and numbered 60/100...

Something of a mystery piece......a black and white photo, 12 5/8" by 11" including thin margins on three sides, (in a temporary protective-only frame), unsigned and unattributed, in a frame which bears old Christie's Los Angeles photo department sale and lot information that does not correspond with the image (I checked with Christie's photographs dept). The image of the moving train is in black and white though there is a hint of a pink/violet tint in a portion of the train sides...

An Old Master woodcut illustration of Theuerdank defeating another knight, one of 118 cuts illustrating one of the greatest books of the German Renaissance, going by that same name, Theuerdank. The book is considered something of a chivalric romance, relating the fictionalized, romanticized adventures of Maximilian I in the course of his journey to the Netherlands in 1477 to fetch his bride, Mary of Burgundy...

Offered together as a pair, two hand signed color offset prints of marine wildlife, each with signed ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR DRAWINGS in the margins, by the internationally known artist ROBERT WYLAND (born 1956). As a bonus, I am including a copy of his book "The Art of Wyland", 1992, which has been hand signed by the artist. The smaller print, (25" by 19 1/2"), of the whales, is titled "Saving Whales" at lower center margin, and is numbered 9/45 at lower left margin...

Etching of an old style bridge spanning a small body of water, signed in pencil at lower right and signed in the plate there and dated 1962 by well listed Hungarian artist ISTVAN BALDIZSAR (1897-1984). The print, measuring 5 1/2" by 10" inside the mat, 14 1/4" by 19" simply framed, has a 19th century feel (or, earlier, actually). The artist has sensitively portrayed a familiar scene of his homeland...

William Schwartz 1896-1977 American This is a fine original lithograph by American artist William S. Schwartz. The title is: Portrait of the Artist's Wife and her Grandfather. THis lithograph was created and printed in 1929. The image measures 21 1/4X16 5/8 inches. Hand signed in pencil lower left and also signed within the plate. William S. Schwartz was born in Smorgon, Russia, February 23, 1896...

Antique Japanese woodblock print by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) entitled Chionin Temple, Kyoto. Looking out through the darkened interior towards bright sky and pines. In the background, heavy temple doors frame a woman and child.

The artist, Hasui Kawase is considered one of the major landscape artists of Japan. He was born the son of a silk merchant and studied both Japanese and Western style painting. He showed at the Tatsumi Exhibition of Painting at the age of 19...

Hand Colored Etching “Dickens Christmas Carol” 5x8” framed size 12x16” done circa 1940

Maki’s Big Reds—an appellation which my late husband Daniel Tretiak gave to Maki’s large, red designs (usually kanji) on black backgrounds—are well-represented by this ox, a subject Maki did many times. An artist’s proof (A.P.), it measures 16in x 21.75in.

Etching on paper laid on card, the subject a marketplace in the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam, signed with "ML" initials and "927" as if a date (not the typical signature of the artist, apparently added later either by him or some other party). This is a work "Judenstrasse in Amsterdam", 1909, by famous German artist MAX LIEBERMANN (1847-1935)...

Six original 32 etchings by Jacques Callot comprising the full series LES PENITENTS ET PENITENTES, Lieure catalog numbers 1315-1319, second state of two except for the frontispiece, which is the first state. Wonderful designs, excellent clean prints. Framed and glazed, not examined outside of frame. Average print size 65 x 43 mm (2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches), frame size 12 x 14 inches.

Stephen Parrish, American, 1846-1938, etching, "Sunset, Gloucester Harbor", image size: 4 7/8 x 8 3/4 inches, 1880, cat. Schneider 40, SP number 40, first state of two, pencil signed. A beautiful, rich impression, Parrish makes excellent use of plate tone to imbue the scene with atmosphere. The second state, which has much less ink in the sky and sea, was later published in American Etchings.

Original etching by Wendell H. Black (American, 1919-1972). First edition printed posthumously by Berkley Chappell. In original unframed condition. Titled and numbered 7/25 in pencil l.l. Also signed "Wendell Black '56 by Elaine" l.r. Plate 14 in "The Lost Works of Wendell H. Black" by Henry Sayre.
