This abstract sculpture is enhanced with a brilliant gold color patina and positioned on a black marble circular base. Rare bronze shishi statue by renaissance artist/potter, Tsukigata Nahiko. This solid and impressive bronze is well sculpted with wonderful details and prominently signed on the rear depicting the "god of wealth or household", Daikoku with his mallet and bag of plenty, one of the Seven Lucky Gods but cleverly represented by a shishi, lion dog which Tsukigata used in a number of his bronze sculpture...

A gray soapstone carving of a blubbery walrus, measuring roughly 8" by 2" by 2". These carvings, which make great paperweights, sold as tourist art in northern, Arctic regions of Canada at mid century remain popular, and a secondary market has evolved. The artist has reduced the familiar animal to a stylized, modern form. Condition is good with no chips. See several other similar works in my shop.

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a good Thai repousse silver box with burlwood lining, depicting the Thai and Burmese kings in battle during the sixteenth century. Sourced directly from Chiang Mai Thailand in 1990, this is a substantial box of good quality silver. The exterior has been allowed to patinate for 20 years and has taken on the usual dark grey patina typical for sterling silver, but the interior is completely pristine as it has never actually been used...

African (possibly, west African) wood carving of a face with decorative motifs, two eye holes, extreme dimensions 23 1/2" by 4" by 3", hand painted and carved out of one block of wood. It has some age. An interesting work for a long narrow space that needs some decoration.

When I first saw this piece, it screamed to me "Picasso". The 11 1/2" by 7 1/2" work is not signed, but the style, the slight glaze on the baked clay surface, the decoration, is suggestive of the ceramic Madoura works of Picasso. The item weighs just shy of three pounds. Condition is excellent.
