Small oil on canvas laid on board painting of a desert, mid to late 20th century, 4 1/2" by 6 1/2" (11 1/2" by 10" framed), signed at lower right by California desert painter KENNETH WALFORD. This is a rather typical example of the work of this artist. I have handled a number of Walford's works. Most feature desert landscapes. Biographical information on the artist seems to be scarce at this time. The painting is lightly soiled, linen liner is stained at upper right.

This etching appears at first glance to be almost certainly a work of famous Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn, but further study shows it to be a 19th century print by Chevalier IGNACE JOSEPH DE CLAUSSIN (1766-1844), ardent, eccentric artist in his own right and a scholar and copyist of graphic work by the Dutch master. Gouache and pencil abstract drawing on paper, 7 1/4" by 11 1/4" (14" by 18" in metal frame of the period), signed on the reverse of the inner backing with what appears as "Richard Chinn(xxx)/gouache/pencil/fall '77". This is an elegant modern little work with attractive colors and composition. I at first thought it unsigned, and was ready to sell it as such, but decided to dig just a bit further, laboriously disassembling the framing, in search of any writing...

Oil on canvas, 24" by 36" (33" by 45" as framed), signed at lower left "Cantrell". This is a good sized oil of a peaceful scene with tree and a house against the setting sun. I date the work to the 1970's or 1980's. Condition good with some light craquelure and very slight dimpling, but no holes. The frame upper left corner is separating just a little bit.
