An example of the 1913 lithograph "La Mere Chatte" ("The Mother Cat"), 11 3/4" by 9 1/4" inside the mat window, (18 3/4" by 15 1/4"as framed) pencil signed in lower right margin by the important French artist THEOPHILE-ALEXANDRE STEINLEN (1859-1913). Printed in a rich chocolate brown ink, the image appears at first to be of one cat, until one looks more closely, to see an adorable tiny young face emerging behind her in the shadows...

Oil on canvas, 21" by 26" (26" by 31" as framed), the subject a winter landscape with coniferous trees in the background, a small unfrozen lake completing the scene. This is an impressionistic work by a nicely listed painter, the works of whom appear with frequency at auctions in Finland. I currently do not have a lot of biographical information on the artist, who was, judging from the label on the reverse (see photo), a member of the Society of Finnish Painters...

Circa 1940 watercolor landscape painting, 11 1/4" by 15 1/4", 19" by 22 1/2" framed (no glass), signed at lower left by artist Edith Ovaitt. Edith appears to have been a talented amateur artist. An internet search reveals a woman by that name born in 1893 or 1898, living in Flint, Michigan at the time of the 1930 census. That Edith Ovaitt died in 1969. Ovaitt is apparently a fairly common name in that area. The watercolor's blue dominating color is very soothing and the work is clean...

By the hand of the noted Polish-born Jewish artist who spent most of his life in California, BERNARD BARUCH ZAKHEIM (1896-1985) is this very early (1929) watercolor study "Mural Design for Monterey Calif". We see an image of a number of figures evidently hard at work in a landscape (possibly harvesting). The watercolor, 11 1/2" by 12" and 14" by 15 1/2" framed, dates to less than a decade after the artist arrived in California...

Vintage circa 1950-1960 KUKRYNIKSY group SOVIET SATIRE PROPAGANDA PRINT. From a trio of Russia's most important graphic artist receiving numerous awards from the Russian state for their work especially in WW11 . Translation "This man is in it for himself: a taker with a large ego. The feeling is more hedonistic than gluttonous here"...

The artist is WILLIAM T. McDERMITT (1884-1961), an Illinois-born artist most closely associated with California. According to the Hughes biography, McDermitt studied at Pratt and the Art Students League in New York, and in Europe...

Miro lithograph, "La Danse de Feu", ("The Fire Dance"), 1963, Mourlot 273, the sheet 15" by 22" (17 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed), numbered in pencil 39/90 at lower left and pencil signed at lower center. The work is printed to the edges with no margin, and there is text on reverse, as shown. There is a soft center crease as issued with 1/4"-1/2" short tears along that pronounced crease at the very bottom and top due to the weakness from having been repeatedly folded...

Bronze Sculpture is Signed number 14 of 100, two pieces each measuring 5 x 9“, the second piece 4 x 7“. Aharon Bezalel was born in 1926 in the city of Harath, Afghanistan. Those of his generation born in Israel are often described as having been “born of the sea”, their backs to the Diaspora, facing a ‘new world' whose culture, still hesitant, had just begun to take shape. Aharon Bezalel was not “born of the sea”...

A fine old etching of a windmill in a low country landscape, signed in pencil and in the plate with a signature that appears to be "J Harvey" or similar. The work is numbered 23/25 at lower right margin. The name being common, there are a number of listed artists that might correspond to this. The numbering suggests a 20th century origin, numbered prints being far less common in the 19th century...

French Artist Françoise SYLVAND is known for bold paintings and this painting is one of the collages famously done with Mixmedia using metal acrylic and found objects measuring 30 x 55“
