A nicely worked watercolor featuring the green farmland and coastal mountains of Ireland, signed at lower right by noted, listed Irish artist SAM MCLARNON (1923-2013). The circa 1970's work, 11 1/4" by 18" (17" by 23" in inexpensive modern framing), is in excellent fresh condition, the colors not faded. One can almost smell the oceanic air. There is some record that McLarnon has had auction records in the past as high as $10,000 but I cannot verify that information...

The work is apparently unsigned. The hand is a little stiff and primitive, but the work is antique and charming. Someone spent a considerable sum on the pleasing newish gold frame and hand-drawn "French mat" with lines and glittery goldish foil border...

Japanese limited edition woodblock print by Morihiro Sato (b. 1943) depicting white bellflowers. A student of Joichi Hoshi who was influenced by Hoshi's use of metallic pigments, the artist set the flowers and partial moon (or sun) against a metallic background. Depending upon the lighting conditions (see image taken with flash) the background appears either golden or silver. The print is pencil-titled in kanji "Autumn (Bellflowers)" and numbered 3/55 at the lower left...
