I call this set of images The Zodiac but Maki formally called them Animal Song + the animal name in kanji. The prints here are Animal Song. Red Lantern Gallery in Kyoto distributed them in 1968. In 1968 Haku Maki was commissioned by Red Lantern Gallery to produce the 12 animals of the Zodiac in a series entitled Animal Song. My Research Note 3 described the set briefly. This is an enhanced version. Maki did only 50 copies of each print; that was a normal run for him in that period...

THREE circa 1960's gouache on heavy paper abstract drawings, unframed, each 24" by 18", each signed at lower right "Greene". The works definitely seem to have some age as the reverse side of the paper is brown and vintage. I cannot connect these to any particular artist so offer them as decorative mid-century works. Condition is excellent, with just one edge nick on one drawing. Each is in a protective-only plastic poster box...

Circa 1965 red free form metal sculpture on a black wooden base by George Curtis (1923-2010). Curtis developed a unique way of creating freedom as opposed to formal structure sculptures. Using a 5 gallon pail filled with water and potatoes, he would melt scrap aluminum and pour it into the pail. The result was an unvisualized form that humans have never seen before, a representation of the shape of spaces and caverns between objects. Measures 15" high.

This is a mixed media work by the eminent, major Iraqi artist KHALID AL RAHAL (1926-1987), the subject being seven individuals grouped into what looks like two families with children. The painting is apparently a plaster mix covered by resin, on panel, standing out in three dimensional relief, and then painted, the work measuring 15 1/2" by 19 1/2" (21 3/8" by 25" as framed). It is signed at lower left "Kalid" and dated there "64"...

This is a hand painted original work, the subject a newly married couple, he in Edwardian (??) formal coat and medals and monocle, she in traditional white with a corsage. The image was either intentionally cut out by the artist and pasted onto a board which was in turn pasted onto a light green silky surface, or someone has subsequently decided on this presentation. Currently the figures therefore stand out in something of a three dimensional manner from the background...

This is a fine painting of the Christmas season flowering plant, the poinsettia, in ink, watercolor and gouache, 13 3/4" by 11", in simple metal framing, no mat, signed at lower left and inscribed to a friend there "with love to David and deepest feelings of appreciation", by the important American artist ABRAHAM RATTNER (1893-1978). Watercolor painting of some age, 13" by 10 1/2" (22" by 18" framed), the subject simply a tree, but, that subject is handled very beautifully, and the work is signed at lower right by artist Paula Day (on whom I find no information). The interpretation of light and color belies the hand of a talented artist. Judging from the framing materials this dates no later than the mid 1960's and likely earlier. I recommend a new mat only; the frame can be retained.
