This note concerns Poem 70-38, a rarely seen Big Red. NOTE: Daniel Tretiak created the term Big Reds for Haku Maki's large works centered on large kanji in red, usually on a black background and often done in broad strokes. Large ones in blue or yellow or green came to be termed Big Blues, Big Yellows, Big Greens, and so forth.

By the important Australian aboriginal artist MICK KUBARKKU, 1922-2008 (often misspelled in various ways as "Gubargu", "Gobargu", etc.) is this circa late 1960's/early 1970's natural earth pigment on eucalyptus bark painting of a barramundi fish in typical stylized form, measuring 11" by 20". On the reverse is an original old typed label which says: "Artist--Gubargu; Tribe: Gunwinggu from the Upper Liverpool River...

20th century copy of an earlier sculpture of Washington by J.A. Houdon 1741-1828. Jean-Antoine Houdon 25 March 1741 – 15 July 1828) was a French neoclassical sculptor.

A very appealing small forest interior painting on board, 9" by 11" (12" by 14" in modern day gold framing), unsigned on front but on reverse in old hand is written (difficult to decipher) "near XXX farm Hampstead Heath/Oct. 3 1908 5 PM/P. P. (XXXX)". The word after P.P. is the last name of the artist but it has defied my efforts to make it out. The scene is painted in luminous tan colors with light grayish green and cream here and there, all in a very impressionistic blond to silvery light...

A PAIR of contemporary oil on canvas works, one on canvas, 20" by 16" (26 1/2" by 22 1/2" framed), the larger piece on canvas board, 24" by 18" (30 1/2" by 24 1/2" framed), one signed with what appears as "Sichan" or similar. The frames are of identical silvery finish. Frames and paintings are in excellent condition.
