A large watercolor painting in impressive strongly horizontal format, the subject waves rolling in on a coast, sailing boats on the horizon, the work signed at lower left by artist "Langdon". This could be Chauncey Langdon (1828-1907), described on AskArt as a topographical painter from Vermont who came around the Horn to California in the Gold Rush days...

This is a puzzling piece; a print in colors, appears to be a lithograph, not an offset, measuring 13 1/4" by 9 1/8" inside the present mat (21 1/4" by 25 1/4" as framed). It is signed "Picasso" in the plate at lower right in the image and dated below that 21-6-20. I don't believe this is from the period, nor do I believe it is listed in a catalogue raisonne; rather, it appears to be some kind of later reproduction perhaps after a drawing or painting...

A very early black and white photo of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of eastern California, signed in the plate at lower right "A. A. Forbes Photo". This is a work of the noted early photographer of the region, ANDREW ALEXANDER FORBES (1862-1921). Forbes was born in Wisconsin, showing early interest in photography. Pastel and charcoal on gray paper, 17 1/2" by 11 1/2" (20" by 14" in wood frame), signed at lower right with conjoined initials "VG", which corresponds to the name of the artist Vinnie Gjere. I was able to figure out the authorship due to there being a companion piece on my site, also a still life and purchased at the same time as this one; that piece is not signed on the front but on the reverse in pencil is "Vinnie Gjere"...

Color lithograph print by the very well listed contemporary Indian artist Sakti Burman (1935-), signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 120/120 at lower left. The lithograph measures 29" by 21 1/2". Currently framed in old metal frame; due to large glass sheet, this will be rolled in a sturdy tube for safety and to shipping economy. Burman was born in Calcutta, but has spent most of his life in Paris, with frequent trips to his homeland for inspiration and renewal...

Brooks Pettus (1918-2003) was a noted western American artist who passed away in Kennewick, Washington, leaving behind a large body of work in watercolor and oil that only recently appeared on the market. Pettus earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico, and spent time in Albuquerque and Taos in the early 1940's. New Mexico's artistically inspiring landscape stimulated Pettus' aesthetic sense as it has for countless others...

THREE hand colored French 19th century prints featuring early-day Japanese soldiers, each 9 1/4" by 6 3/8" inside the faded old violet mats, to which each is simply taped at top edge. The prints are unframed. Two have a dark foxing mark, and all are of sufficient age to have acquired the signs of age---paper toning, slight handling creases and so forth. Fresh mats and frames will display them properly and preserve them for another 150 or so years...

Watercolor on paper drawing, unframed, 15" by 21 1/2" inside the gold mat, the subject two proper late Victorian women with parasols, on a small boat in a lake landscape, towering trees in the background, signed at lower left with what appears as "D. G. Streeton", and dated there 1898. This is a nicely executed work, probably American. I cannot seem to match it to a known artist...

Watercolor on paper, unsigned, 9" by 5 1/2", (12 5/8" by 8 5/8" as framed), the subject a mansion's impressive doorway with Corinthian columns, hanging lantern, detailed cornices, balustraded balcony, and green shutters, with lush flowering plantings surrounding the entry. Unfortunately, this is unsigned. There are some framing notes on the reverse in old hand, including "Mrs. Buckingham", but there are no clues as to artist. The drawing was purchased in New England. One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not yet added to my shop), this is a fine image in charcoal with some strategic and deftly placed green, red and blue color added with chalk or pastel, 12" by 16 3/4", unframed, signed at lower right, and dated there 8/20 '58, by the California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art ...

Early watercolor on paper of flowers, I think petunias, in a ceramic vessel, 11" by 14", 17 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right indecipherably, and possibly dated 1901. I believe the artist is likely listed, considering the quality of the drawing. The paper was laid long ago on a board, as shown. Condition of the image area is excellent, with colors true and not faded.

A circa mid 1960's oil on canvas painting of a dark-haired young woman, 10 1/2" by 8 3/4" (18" by 16" in a gold frame that appears to me to be hand carved and leafed).
