Maki’s Big Reds—an appellation which my late husband Daniel Tretiak gave to Maki’s large, red designs (usually kanji) on black backgrounds—are well-represented by this ox, a subject Maki did many times. An artist’s proof (A.P.), it measures 16in x 21.75in.

Oil on canvas, 26" by 32" (34" by 40" framed, signed at lower right by mid century French well listed artist ABEL GERBAUD (1888-1954). This is a work in that modern School of Paris style popular at mid century. Note the title on the stretcher, "l'islandais dans le port de St. Goustain"...

One will often find that Vincent's paintings are signed and inscribed, with his address, on the reverse. On the reverse of the canvas the artist has written the title "Mid-Victorian", the date (May 1932), her name, Los Angeles, Cal., and original price of $75 or possibly $175 (appears she went over the numbers----maybe in difficult Depression times she had second thoughts on pricing)...

Antique miniature portrait painting, depicting a beautiful lady in sitting position dressed in 19th century style gown. The portrait has a diameter of 2 1/4 inches mounted in a metallic frame, housed in a square brownish wooden frame with dimension of 4.75 inches. Condition Report: The portrait is in very good condition and bears artist's signature

A nicely painted oil on canvas still life of flowers in a Chinese vase or pot, balancing between trompe l'oeil realism and impressionism, signed at lower left by artist ELIZABETH CAMPBELL. This is a contemporary work, likely less than thirty years old, measuring 28" by 22" (33 1/2" by 27 1/2" framed). There is a listing by this name but I do not believe it to be the same artist. Condition is excellent save for a small scuff at upper left.

"Family and Hearth" Oil on canvas 18 1/8" x 15 1/4" unframed J.R. Herve was born in 1887 in Langres, a town in the eastern part of France. He began his art studies in an evening school of his hometown. He went to Paris where he first continued his studies at the School of Decorative Arts and then at the Fine Arts School. In The Life and Works of Haku Maki I refer fairly briefly to his Big Reds and other large prints of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Otto Bacher 1856-1909 American This is a fine and rare etching by American artist Otto H. Bacher. The title of this pencil signed impression is: Venice, Shipping and the Ducal Palace, This etching was created and printed in 1880. Bacher along with a group of pupils of Frank Duveneck followed him to Florance and Venice to be with him for the summer. It was there that Bacher met and worked with Whistler. The image measures 4 1/2X 12 3/8 inches...

A beautiful work depicting a giraffe and parrot measuring 16” x 20”, signed TETI, probably late 1940’s or early 1950’s

This 1856 self-portrait by Seymour Guy (1824-1910) is mounted in its original frame. The signature is on the left side if the chair. Several of this American Artist can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There is some in-painting on the face and coat.
