A fine, highly finished and detailed watercolor painting of a seated lady on a patio, her large lute at her side. The setting is possibly a castle, as a tower in the background suggests. The artist signed at lower right and dated the work 1875. It measures 13 1/2" by 9 1/4" (16 1/2" by 12 1/4" in its attractive circa 1930's framing (note the old Jordan Marsh department store label from Boston on reverse--could have been purchased or framed there). Frame shows some wear on right hand side...

PAIR of ink and watercolor/gouache drawings of pink and white dogwood blossoms (commonly seen in the spring in Connecticut), each 10" by 8" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 13 1/4" as framed, signed at lower right by the noted Darien, Connecticut craftswoman artist DOROTHEA WARREN O'HARA (1873-1972). Plate signed etching, 13" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, the sheet 16" by 13 3/4", titled "Rue de la Glaciere", 1937, by the famous and important French modern artist MAURICE de VLAMINCK (1876-1958). The original edition is given as 400 or 500 examples; later restrikes might exist. I do not know if this might be one of them. The paper is very thin and delicate and appears ribbed as would laid style paper. I do not see any watermarks...

Attractive Landscape Painting Helene de Lone Watercolor and Paper 10 x 17”, frame size 16 x 22”

Watercolor painting of a rugged mountain peak on an autumn day, possibly viewed from the eastern Sierra Nevada in the vicinity of Lone Pine or Bishop, signed at lower right and dated 1936 by listed California artist EINAR HANSEN (1884-1965). This is a beautifully executed vintage work, measuring 14 1/4" by 20 3/4" (24" by 30 3/4" in simple strip wood frame). Hansen was a painting friend of Maynard Dixon. One wonders if perhaps they were sitting together chatting while this was created...

This is a good sample of using the natural color of agate to create an interesting snuff bottle. It is 3 inches tall, 1 1/8 inches wide and 1 inch thick. The artist used the orange of the agate to create a large squash and small squash hanging on its side. The black section of the stone color was used to create a lucky bat; the lighter color of the stone served to create a monkey grabbing the smaller squash. The subject is quite striking and the workmanship is wonderful...

A very good bronze figure of a hound by Piere-Jules Mene (1810-1877). The hound stands alert look over his shoulder at the viewer. The rectangular base is well-textured with rocks and branches, typical of Mene's style. The shape of the base suggests that the casting is from Mene's own foundry and dates to the 1840s. The dogs is nicely detailed. The figure is finished in a dark black/brown patina. The front left corner of the base is signed P. J. Mene...
