A watercolor painting of a small motor boat and the surrounding dock area complete with lobster traps, signed at lower right by artist WILLIAM J. GILLETT, where it is also dated 1950. The work on heavy watercolor paper measures 12 1/2" by 17 1/4" and is currently housed in an old frame and mat that should all be discarded (that measuring 21" by 25")...

Gouache and watercolor on paper laid on board, 9 5/8" by 17 1/4", unframed (protected in a plastic poster box), signed at lower left "Hayden" (HENRI HAYDEN, 1883-1970). This sunny scene incorporates seven figures, all laboring under the Mediterranean sun. One at right in red/white striped shirt is dealing with a bucket load of fish; the lady in yellow dress carries a basket of produce on her head; to her left, several people stoop or bend over, attending to their agricultural tasks...

Post impressionist oil painting of a partial nude in blue tones. Reminiscent of Picasso's Blue Period. Signed lower right and presented in original dark wood frame with white insert. Masonite panel measures 20 x 30 inches.

Oil on canvas laid on board painting, circa 1950, titled in artist hand on reverse "The Rail Fence", 13 1/2" by 17" (17 1/2" by 21" framed) signed at lower right by the artist MYRON CHESTER NUTTING (1890-1972). Nutting was born in Nevada. He became known in California for landscape and portrait works. He and his wife spent time painting in Cambria on the scenic Central Coast in 1939 and again from 1953-1955. Apparently he also spent time in Texas...

Watercolor on paper painting of green hills in the spring or winter, their tops entering low cloud, 15" by 21" (24" by 30" in circa 1950's or 1960's frame), signed at lower left by listed California artist STANFORD STEVENS (1897-1974). This is a very competently executed painting of what I imagine is a California landscape turning green after winter and spring rains...

There is an askart listing for the name but an internet search has yielded little information; apparently he had some connection to New York so was an individual of Japanese ancestry working in America. Original oil painting on panel by Max Heimann (Germany, USA, born 1909). Circa 1940s. Probably painted in Shanghai where Heimann and his family were exiled during WWII. This painting is 17" square and is in excellent condition.

In its original frame and still bearing an exhibition label from the James McCray Exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Art giving the title of the piece (Post Hydrogen Bomb 11), the date (1950), etc. This painting is signed l.r. In very good condition. 16" by 22" painting alone, 24" by 30" in its original frame...

Circa 1950's oil on canvas of a mountain with cross on top, and what could be a small body of water in the foreground, painted in an impressionist hand. The scene could possibly be Mount Cristo Rey, a landmark with Christ cross on the summit, at the extreme southeast corner of New Mexico, overlooking the El Paso, Texas area. The work measures 16" by 18" and 21 1/2" by 24" framed. Sadly this became badly damaged at some point, with catastrophic tears through the composition...

Oil on masonite portrait of a classic man of Bavaria with his traditional hat and shirt, 15 1/2" by 14" (23 1/2" by 21 1/2" framed), signed at upper left corner and dated 47 by the well listed German artist ANDREAS MITTERFELLER (1912-1972). The artist created traditional horizontal format landscape works which appear frequently at auction in Germany, but I see only a very few portraits or genre works in the records...

Color etching titled "La Mare" ("the pond"), featuring a whitewashed two story country house or inn by a dirt road next to a pond, signed in pencil below the image "de Croisset". There is a printed label on the backing stating that this is a limited edition. A search by this name does not reveal a listed artist; I suggest that this might be a pen name/pseudonym...
