A charming, signed, pastel portrait by Dorothy Colles (1917-2003) who was (according to an obituary published in the Independent newspaper) "gifted in portraits of children". This picture was drawn circa 1963 (please see our other Colles picture) and was a commissioned piece for an advertising poster. Dorothy Colles has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. Condition - excellent. The picture 20 inches by 17.7 inches (51cm x 45cm)...

Late 19th century painting of the Roman Colosseum, an historical arch and surrounding gardens and park, signed at lower left "Conti". The piece, which measures 6 1/2" by 4 1/4" inside the mat, and 13 3/4" by 11 3/4" as framed in polished, shiny reddish-brown wood, displays exceptionally fine detail despite its small size. Joseph Pennell, American, 1857-1926, "Waterloo Bridge and Somerset House". A beautiful architectural cityscape by master printmaker, Joseph Pennell. Measuring 8 x 11 inches, it is pencil signed with publishers label on the backing. Created in 1905 in an edition of probably 75, cat: Wuerth #379. Pennell was an important American etcher, lithographer and illustrator. Good friends with James McNeill Whistler, he and his wife co-authored his biography...

A well-painted and colourful oil painting on board by Frank E. Cavell (Canada, 1909-80, AOCA (Associate of the Ontario College of Art)). The scene is titled (on the gallery label on the back) "Routley's Mill Bruce County", it has an image size of 19-1/2 x 15-1/2". It is signed on the bottom/lower left. It is in a vintage 1950s gilt wood and gesso 26" x 22" frame...

Work 73-12A is a firm and strong dragon not fierce not wimpy. The central kanji is offset by a small yellow Maki sun at the top left and a red splash on the right. They counterbalance each other and give color and verve to the whole print.

Original unique sculpture in clay or terra cotta, 11 1/2" by 6" by 6", mounted on a black 3" high base, signed on the sculpture "E. BARR", not dated but likely circa 1960's. I cannot to date find information on the artist but he/she was certainly a talent who was familiar with modern giants like Henry Moore, Jacques Lipchitz, Alexander Archipenko and others who worked in this manner, simplifying and glorifying the human form...

An oil on canvas, 12" by 16" and 16 1/2" by 20" in dark stained wood frame, featuring a number of women in a colorful tropical village, carrying baskets of tropical fruits (possibly papayas). The artist signed at bottom right "Paul". The work probably dates to the 1970's or 1980's. A colorful addition to any room. Very slight wear on frame and tiny white area in sky is a spot of disturbed paint.

In the 1960s, Haku Maki was beginning his career as a modern print maker. He used ersatz titles for different series of prints: Cell, Animal Song for the Zodiac, Proportion, Work, Figure,and Emanation. Flower Song was another. Here we show Flower Song 6, which I have just acquired, and Flower Song 3 which I have owned for a long time The others are not noteworthy. This one measures 13 x 17in/48 x 34cm.

The present work does not appear to be by an artist, AL-HILALI, who is listed at the present time; however I feel the quality of the work suggests that as the market for modern Islamic art develops, the artist will be properly recognized. This oil on canvas measures 23 1/4" by 39", and is in a narrow period frame, with an intentional gap between stretcher and frame...

Yasuo Kuniyoshi 1889-1953 Japanese-American, Arts Students League N.Y. This is a fine pencil signed and dated lithograph by American artist Yasuo Kuniyoshi. This image created and printed in 1928, has an image size of 11X6 inches, printed on an ivory toned chine colle, adhered to a thicker supporting sheet. This lithograph is numbered as 28/30. Very fine condition apart from a line of toning in the border where an earlier window mat once lay. Catalog as Davis L-30.
