"Hamada Potter" by Bernard Leach. 1975 First Edition, Kodansha. Hadmade paper bound hard cover with original plastic dust cover. The book is bound with hand-laid paper from Fukui Prefecture coated with pine resin sizing. The titling on the cover and spine was silk-screened with natural Japanese lacquer by Wajima Craft, with the held of the lacquer artists Keisuke Ichinaka and Isaburou Kado. The image is Hamada's signature broken sugar cane motif which adorned so many of his pots...

This hard cover coffee table book is tight and clean however the dust jacket is tattered. A small stain is also at the bottom of the front beige linen board. Wonderful B&W photos that capture that period in time.

The cover shows light wear with mild tanning at the front left corner and there is an old price written in pencil on the front free paper. Many counties and time periods are referenced. A glossary is also included. Slightly musty. 126pp.

 

A hardcover with dust jacket published by Skira and distributed in the U.S. by World Pub. Co., Cleveland, 1962. There are 109 full color plates. The original paper band on the front is ripped and the jacket shows very light wear at the corners. The plate on 43 has separated and the plate on page 37 has a small line running through it. The book otherwise is fine. 227pp.+

Lowell Thomas at mid century (and well into the latter part of it, having passed away in 1981) was a pioneer in radio broadcasting, and early newsreel films, who lived a most interesting, full and unusual life of travel to some of the world's most distant and exotic destinations. Here, in this 1956 book, one of over fifty he penned starting in the 1920's, he describes his travels. The book is a first edition, and the author has signed it in bright green ink as shown...

Sold together, an author-inscribed copy of the April 1965 edition of Pearl Buck's original 1931 masterpiece novel, THE GOOD EARTH, along with a typed letter from the Pearl S. Buck Foundation, dated September 28, 1971, signed by Buck. The letter and book, acquired together, are inscribed to a Mr. and Mrs. F. Allen Lucy of Pennsylvania. The book has a dust jacket which shows a little wear, but overall it is clean, and the letter is protected in a plastic sleeve...
