A heavy Japanese Banko plate with bamboo, made by a Japanese Banko ceramist, Yamada Touka. There are holes on the back which makes it good for decoration.

A view of a gate of a Japanese home found in the outskirts of Kyoto such as Ohara. The print contains an inscription of the title of the work, the date of the print, and the number. The woodblock was made by Saito Kiyoshi (1907-1997) who was known in producing prints of Buddhist subjects and views of traditional architecture in Kyoto. Age: 1968. Size: height 24.5" length 28.75"

A splendid Japanese woodblock print portraying the view of the noted Sino-Japanese temple, Obakusan Manpukuji in Uji, South of Kyoto city. The woodblock was done by Saito Kiyoshi (1907-1997) known for producing prints of Buddhist subjects and views of the traditional buildings of Kyoto. Age: Late Showa, c. 1968. Vintage summer hitoe kimono made of a silk and hemp(asa) weave. It has a beautiful print pattern of orange blossoms and paulowni blossoms in blue/green, yellow, and silver. It would have been worn over the juban, the under robe, which would have been white to bring out the colors of the robe. It measures 61" long 51" wide. Showa period, 1950-1970.

Netsuke of standing Jurojin (one of the 7 Gods of happiness, usually associated with longevity) holding a scepter with reishi fungus head, wearing a cape, a long robe and a spotted deer (the animal is a symbol of longevity) skirt. There is a nice detail for a netsuke lover - he is wearing an inro suspended by a manju netsuke. Excellent carving - see the detailing of his portrait quality face, incised fingernails, texture and spots of the deer skirt. Superb quality staining, beautiful patina...

A sitting lady in Heian era court dress and hair, clutching a giant golden matsudake mushroom. She wears a bright red hakama and light blue kimono. The shape of the mushroom has a close resemblance to a penis and the sculpture definitely has an erotic meaning.

Hand modeled, soft hollow earthenware, painted in cold-applied colors and gold.

Japanese Porcelain Umbrella Jar or Stand, 24" high, 9 1/2" diameter, beautifully decorated over glaze enamel of flowering branches and Phoenix Bird in the colorful floral background. The condition is good no damages. The dark line inside the stand is glaze ran down from the top rim, not crack.

Vintage Japanese wooden kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony), its cover carved in a shape of the Zen Patriarch Daruma wearing a monk’s cape, and with gold lacquer on the inside. Beautiful dense fruitwood, carving is done in ittobori (one cut) style characteristic for the Hida school of carvers. Wonderful face, in excellent condition. Signed KAZUICHI SAKU (made by Kazuichi) on the bottom. Diameter 2.1 inches, height 1.5 inches. Part of a small East Coast kogo collection.

Figure of an eight-armed octopus, lying down in an almost elegant pose. Stoneware with gradient brown-beige color glaze. Signed on the back Hakushi or Hiroshi. Japan, later part of Showa era.

Currently in its 5th generation, the Miura Chikusen line of potters has continued to produce high-quality Kiyomizu-yaki and Kyo-yaki porcelains used in sencha for well over 150 years. The piece seen here is by the third generation potter and has the rare distinction of being endorsed by Sokuchusai, a former Head Tea Master of Omotesenke in Kyoto. Simple and elegant, a section of bamboo stands out in contrast to the white crackled porcelain glaze...

Unique Japanese Uchikake (wedding gown), embroidered in thick light blue silk, the liner is red silk without padding except at the bottom hem. The embroidery and gold couching (some silver) work are all done by hand. The pattern is from ancient Chinese "Shokko nishiki". The colors of silk looks different on different parts of the gown. We laid the gown under the sun light when we took extra photos. The light changed everything...
