A pair of Japanese Imari porcelain dishes. A later example with Namban (or Nanban - Southern barbarian) subject "Black Ship" dishes. The decoration in the Imari palette depicting Portuguese figures and their famed trading ship, that between Japan and China. Good condition. Showa period, probably mid 20th century. Dimensions: Diameter about 10 inches, Height about 1 3/8 and 1/14 inches respectively.
Thin Bronze Han Dynasty mirror , silvery bronze front great encrustation on the back in vivid green. The mirror has a clean crack and is in 2 tight fitting pieces. The central knob has a 2 mark inscription. Just over 3" diameter.
DESCRIPTION: A handsome rectangular Chinese chest crafted from a deep red ox leather and furnished with brass fittings. The interior still has the original blue silk lining and would have originally held scrolls or documents. Today it would make an attractive accent piece on top or underneath a cabinet or table. Good condition with some scuffing on edges; blue silk interior has some stains and small holes. This chest originated from Zhejiang Province and dates from 1920-1940...
Small box and cover. The base of the box made of kiri wood (Paulownia), the cover made of kiri and keyaki (Zelkova) wood, diagonally joined together. The outside of the cover is decorated with two black shijimi fresh-water clam shells in kiji makie technique (applying makie lacquer decoration to natural wood)...

A masterpiece by one of Japan's preeminent artists, Seiko Sawada b.1894-1988. This signed piece was executed out of keyaki wood in his younger days in the 1930's depicts Ebisu, one of the seven lucky gods, riding a fish and a wave spouting out of the fish's mouth. Daikoku, the god of abundance, is riding his treasure bag holding his hammer of magic.
The Sawada Museum is in Atami, Shizuoka. Sawada was awarded the Order of Merit in the 1970's.

The bottom margin contains in pencil the title of the print (in kanji), artist’s proof (in French), the date 1959, and the artist's signature. Paper: 17 3/4" x 24 7/8" (image: 14 1/8" x 21 3/8"). Full margins. Very good overall condition. The print is slightly faded and there are a few tiny foxing spots...

Signed on the bottom, KANINKOSO, this bronze 'koro' incense burner is from the Showa Period 1950-1960. The main body has a flock of cranes in supurb relief, as well as a lid with a hexagonal turtle diaper and a turtle on top.

Bashofu kimono hand-woven of ito-basho, which is a family of banana tree. Both wefts and warps are hand-plied. The brown warp kasuri yarns are dyed with extract liquid from tree or root of "sharinbai", which is a family of rose, and the very dark blue weft kasuri yarns are dyed with Ryuku-ai, vegetable indigo in Okinawa. Bashofu has been woven in many Islands in Okinawa for everyday kimono or work wear. 20th century. It has some stains and holes. W:106cm, L:116cm

Stunning, bold art deco Shigaraki wood-fired ceramic plate. Full of feldspar or long life stones unique to Shigaraki clays. Some kiln scars made during firing but the glaze has oozed out of the crack in the back indicating a natural firing scar. Diameter: 20". Great condition. Ca. 1970
