Beautiful framed Japanese urushi-e painting by artist Hakuo Iriyama (born 1904 in Shirone, Niigata). Urushi-e is a style of Japanese art in which colored lacquers are used, along with mica and metal elements as accents. This piece depicts Mount Fuji, raised against a deep blue background, with etched rock formations in bright gold and orange lacquer at its peak, fading to brown lacquer with silver mica-powder mists floating around it...

A rather unusual fan painting (senmen) portraying an image of a dragon rising above the clouds done using fingers. The tradition of finger painting is thought to have originated from China. Eccentric literati artists used their fingers instead of the brush to become one with the painting. Work contains a signature and seal by an artist named Sonsen. Additionally, the inscription on the fan reads: finger painted by Sonsen. Age: Early 20th century Size: Height 55.5" Length 27.5"

A large silk painting of a scene from the history of Japan by Kai Seihyo (1882-1974), one of Japan's noted painters specializing in historical subjects. Kai Seihyo was trained at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts. It was later in Seihyo's life where the artist began producing unique historical subjects and received high acclaim where Seihyo was known for his paintings of samurai and horses. Japanese framed print signed by artist known as Ay-O 靉嘔(1931-present). His full name is Takao Iijim, a prominent member of the Fluxus artist movement since its beginning.

Fluxus is described "the most radical and experimental art movement of the sixties".

Ay-O represented Japan at the Venice Biennale in 1966 and at the São Paulo Biennale in 1971. He also built the famed "Tactile Rainbow" at the Osaka World's Fair in 1970...

Japanese Meiji period scroll painting by the artist, Katsuyo. Ink and color on paper, hanging scroll. The painting depicts a beauty in the rain, holding her umbrella. Signed “Katsuyo”, with one signature seal of the artist. The painting is in very good condition, however, the mounting is broken.

Hanging scroll. Painting of two noble men on horseback. The men and the horses are dressed up beautifully and are obviously competing with each other in one way or another. Probably a scene on a horse track, the men shortly before or after a race.

Katsuda Tetsu(1896-1980) was a Japanese painter from the Taisho(1912-1926) and Showa era (1926-1989). He studied Western painting at Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts). He turned to Japanese painting and became an apprentice to Yamamoto Shunkyo(1872-1933) in 1923...

Satsuki was from Kyoto, the most famous pupil of Tomioka Tessai, early C20. This painting is beautifully painted with black and plum colours, perfectly combining strength and delicacy in the technique and in the subject matter. In Japanese culture as in Chinese, plum blossom symbolizes strength and nobility of character. Good condition, some creases, with original signed box. Size: L: 199cm W 42cm.

The hermit seems to be relaxing under the plum tree, as if meditating. It is depicted with so much presence that he almost pop off the screen. The soft hair is made with plenty of gofun(which is slightly lost), and the work is beautifully painted in detail, as if we can feel the texture of the skin.
